If you plane to offer it to your/a young children, you should maybe wait for the final release.
Or he will certainly be desappointed
(The first subnautica game is great and fully released it can be a perfect gift)

Yeah, my friend's child wanted to play it, but my friend needet to know the age restrictions before she let him have it. He is well aware that the game is an early access =)

Absolutely.

My sons (12 & 14) do not play anything that I or my wife have checked out beforehand.
Since I'm a gamer I have a pretty good picture of what they are allowed to play.

It's not so much the age rating, more of a content thing, but age rating is a good hint.

The original subnautica was altered a year and bit before finish when fish blood was changed to yellow-green to avoid rating issues and you won't find human bodies either for the same reason. it is meant for a younger audience.
