My problem with Robin.
Firstly, this is my personal opinion. Robin's current voice isn't bad by any means, but I find myself honestly preferring her old voice. It's not just her voice though. I also prefer her old personality. Before I go on though, I should explain Robin"s old voice and personality for those unaware. One thing I should make clear though is that I don't actually own the game. This knowledge is simply going off Jacksepticeye's videos. So if I say something wrong or inconsistent, feel free to correct me. I don't even know when Robin's voice was changed.

In earlier versions of Subnautica: Below Zero, Robin's voice was higher pitched and, in my opinion, more cute. And at the start of the game, it was clear she had a quirky and fun loving personality, and a good relationship with her sister, Sam. This is made clear by a conversation Robin has with Sam at the start of the game. It shows off Robin's fun personality, and shows the good relationship she and Sam have.

However, that seems to have vanished, and the protagonist I once knew as being full of personality is all but a lifeless vessel that is a playable protagonist. I miss her old voice and personality.

Edit: Ok, I do think I went a bit overboard calling this new voice a "lifeless vessel." She's not. That's just how it felt to me at the time. I just don't see how people think it's blasphemy to have a fun and quirky character who ALSO takes her job seriously? I've seen people do both.

The original actress wasn't available for the re-recording. The script is being rewritten so most if not all of the voice work will be redone.

Would be nice if Tala is available now. That was quite a while ago.

'Cause an important attribute for an experienced Xenobiologist is to have a cute voice.
I get it. Adolescent boys want a young spunky girl and not a 40 year old scientist who is old enough to be their mother.

The fact that this discussion has come up tells me that UWE didn't come to their senses and didn't return to the silent protagonist.

Shame. I was hoping this game could still be salvaged.

I would like for a male option. I have nothing against female mains in Storydriven Adventures, but in a game like that I have to identify with the character.

"Still be salvaged"? Is the fact that Robin has a voice the deal breaker? Because that's kinda dumb.

Boi, I never said the change was bad. I just said I preferred her old voice.

I dislike the old voice , wayyy too optimistic , also full of sarcasm .

You are in big trouble , your base got buried , the higher up refuse to send rescue , an alien take root inside your brain and yet you still challenge the alien and ask him to blow up your space station ? It is beyond weird and unrealistic .

This current voice though , show she is quite experienced , the type of researcher that someone would send to an unknown planet that was known to have contagious disease . She is calm , collected .

Clearly you don't understand how instrumental the silent protagonist was to the original Subnautica's success.

Instrumental? You must be joking. The gameplay was what sold the game, not the protagonist being silent.

I did like the silent protagonist that could have been anyone, even me!

But the current voice and lines seem much more in-story, than the first, and reminds me of people that I worked with. If you are stranded for real, that's who you want to be, not some 14 year old. Even if you really are 14 years old! Part of the fun is imagining that you are older, stronger and better trained. 8-)

a 40+ year old swimming in below zero world water and riding a snow fox.... ya that makes sense. sign her up!! Tom Hanks couldn't even save a soccer ball in Castaway in a tropical paradise RIP Wilson! "gg" Lore with the ridiculous age reference. :) please look at the artwork for Robin... and tell me you think she looks anywhere near 40...for real?

Exactly like I said. You don't understand how instrumental it was.
I never said the gameplay wasn't great (though that too suffered a downgrade in BZ).

But yeah, you apparently have no idea why it mattered, so I'd recommend against acting like it didn't.
