With a Control room , you can rename the whole base!

Control Room adds a built-in beacon or you can just put down your own beacon and click on it to change the text.

I guess I need a control room because I put down a beacon and named it next to the hatch but it still says 'HABITAT' etc when I enter.

Hopefully they make the Control Room a bit more rotatable in the future. The name plate only points in select directions. West? I want it to face East!

That actually sounds like a bug - does anybody know what the default text is for the Control Room's built-in beacon?

I bet it's "HABITAT".

You should report it in-game in case they're not aware.

I don't have the control room blueprint yet but this refers to my flotation beacon right outside the entrance hatch in shallow water and upright with the title 'Beach 1' but when I enter it still says HABITAT etc (just to clarify in case I phrased my question incorrectly) thanks.
