This game looks awesome! Will there be a native Linux version? Thanks!

Great news thanks!
DYSMANTLE is due to rely on proton, according to an email reply from 10tons. However there is and update for Proton compatibility.

We also fixed some Proton issues with DYSMANTLE, it should work now: https://www.protondb.com/app/846770

Wait, does this mean the native version is canceled?

Pretty much. The 10tons email outlines that the studio is counting on Proton support for their newly release Skeletal Avenger as well.
But they are doing their best to keep Proton compatibility functional. If this starts to fail... THEN they will look at Linux support.

That's a shame, was following for it being supported, removed from wishlist.

We're still looking into the native Linux stuff. The problem is that the Proton version works even better than the native Linux in some cases, so we're don't want to launch an inferior native version just for the sake of being native. We're planning on trying Vulkan renderer on Linux instead of OpenGL to see if that improves the performance, but we're a small indie studio so everything takes time. (The potential problem with Vulkan is that it may not be as compatible as OpenGL.)

So all in all, the Windows version works very well through Proton! It should work automatically through Steam compatibility stuff.

Oh you 100% want to be using the Vulkan renderer with Unity, their OpenGL has *always* been slow and it has issues with texture flickering too. As for compatibility, there's not going to be many people whose GPU doesn't support it still buying modern games.

We're actually using our own homegrown engine instead of Unity or Unreal. But yeah, Vulkan can be optimized to be more efficient than OpenGL. Not sure what Proton is doing exactly, but I think it's translating D3D11 to Vulkan as well. And you're probably right that the target audience for this game does have modern enough GPUs and Linux drivers up to date.

Ohh okay, my bad. Still, higher performance with Vulkan is pretty much a given due to the API design. Yes, Proton includes translation layers that translates Direct 3D to Vulkan, they're called DXVK and VKD3D-Proton.
