Yes please! We need this! (VR makes me super dizzy unfortunately and can't play at all..) :steamsad:

That's like asking for a car without wheels, so people who get car sick can join in on the fun. Games built tightly around VR controls that get mouse control patched in after the fact are often a sub-par experience and generally end up being boring. Be careful what you wish for.

Oh please, i watched gameplay videos and its nothing really hard to adapt to gamepad and mouse controls. We have seen tons of Wii games with similar controls adapted to PC and other consoles, most notable similar examples are Rayman Raving Rabbits or Epic Mickey. There are many gesture based games that you can play with gamepad and mouse. It could be a little clunky at times, but nothing imposible and unplayable.

Also i know a developer of VR game RollerGirls from Beyon - he alone after my requests https://steamcommunity.com/app/470490/discussions/0/343786195670031028/ (read whole thread with our conversation) made an update with adapted controls, allowing to play without VR set, and it was fun without VR. It took him about 1 year since release do that

So its not like devs cant do this, they just dont want or dont care.

Here is example of dev who cares and want:

Have no VR headset, but i like this game, not sure if i can play it without VR. If i can i ill buy it, if cant then devs really should make it non vr systems compatible and never do VR exclusive game until it uses features that cant be really impemented without VR (which are mostly for first person games).

Hi Voodooman, thank you for your thoughts here, at the moment it is VR only and yes you would need a headset. There are many features in the game that can only be done with VR, I have been looking into making a version that is non VR, it means recreating all cut scenes and a great deal of game play elements including how the main camera works, but it is something I would like as I have been getting many many requests for this.

Oh thanks for reply, if you will do non VR alterations, please dont do it as stand alone release, just do some toggle option that will change behavior on fly.

But what exactly at the current implmentation cant be done with regular controller on regular screen?

Hey Voodooman, yes that sounds perfect, thank you, do it as just the first option at startup to choose VR or NonVR sounds like the way to go. Will do.

Oh the main issue with current implementation isn't so much the controller, it is that the whole game was built from the ground up around your View in VR, There are two big things. Since you can look ahead of you and behind you in 3D space in VR this allows you to see enemies coming from a longer distance. The gameplay is very fast and was built around that, so you need that pre warning, I have played it on a flat screen and while it works well it's really is a lot harder because enemies are up on you in no time. The overall flow of the game play in the later levels about 2 hours in is that you have learned all of the combos and skill swaps so it comes down to memory swapping buttons for each girl really quickly depending on the enemy, so I found in later levels it was cool, just really hard to start with.
2nd thing is that you essentially play as the UI in VR, or that was my idea anyway, a way to bring more life to a User Interface system by making it a character that you play as, you are the mega computer in a little flying helipod that is tracking the rollergirls. The inner workings of the way the game feeds information for health, skills, menu interaction, enemies etc is all fed through the computers helipod 3D game asset as if it were a real thing, so it can animate it's arms, play info on screens, talk to you etc and that all requires you to look around inside it. I would have to remove that idea for the 2D version so all information is upfront in the UI on a flat screen.
Having said that none of these are big issues that can't be tackled at all and in fact I've almost done a 2D version with all these changes. It's a really interesting situation probably not that common at the moment, going from VR to 2D and not the other way around.
Thanks for your interest I hope that wasn't too long of an explanation:) Hopefully will have that 2D version done pretty soon.

Thanks again for detailed reply - but please dont remove that from non VR version, this 1st person element that represents Ui will work just fine without VR and even without alterations of control, there only needs to be some camera and fov aligment tweaking done, since VR aspect ration is mostly 1:1 and you will just have to scatter things around 16:9 .

Please dont remove this, it will break whole unique selling point of this game. Just tweak things a little. If you want i can playtest nonVR version for you and provide feedback of how it works and plays, but im pretty sure that without VR whole first person immersive digestic ui will work just fine.

Hi, Firstly my apologies for the slow reply. Yes there is an option to choose NonVR mode on the startup so you do not require any VR equipment to play. It's just that there is no good way to note this on the store page as the only option is either requires VR or not and so removing one removes all.

I would gladly buy this game at full price if it wouldnt need VR to play, i dont have the cash to buy any VR set.

If the developers ever wonder why their game didn't sell that well... then it's because they didn't add keyboard/controller support. It looks like a lovely game, but I dunno if I'll ever play it. I might get a VR device one day...
In also waiting for it... The VR makes me extremely dizzy i just can´t use it... And i don´t think a platform game can't be compatible with a Gamepad or Mouse/Keyboard...

No, devs, don't listen to them. It is good as it is. And those that ask should for once spend their precious dollars and buy good VR headset.

I have been asking for racing games without any driving and have been ignored for like 2 decades. They could easily sell billions more copies if they added a no vehicle mode. It wouldn't even be difficult to code.

This makes no sense. You're comparing apples to tires.

True, dude has very broken logic.

He shoud look at this:

Even such a VR heavy game like HL ALyx is possible to play without VR. Clunky a little, but it works..

Update:

omg this mod actually not really a mod, but a driver that emulates VR, so its possible to use with other VR games.

Can someone try it with MOSS and make a video?

I would suspect that it would be extremely tough to incorporate the 3d effects on a flat screen. There are places where I have to stand up and then lean in towards my PC to see the map.

Hi, i dont think it will be available for without VR, because need 2 controller with all function to peek around also and some interaction, for now the cheapest VR headset we can grab only Oculus Quest 2, i just managed grab last week around 380USD (because no retailer in my country, only import reseller) and yet you still need to buy Virtual Desktop on oculus store around 20$ with Wifi 5ghz minimum connected to your home network for wireless gaming.

To be fair the largest part of the game is the immersion of you in the game as part of the world. I personally feel much of the magic that is Moss might be lost without that. Sure it could probably be done with some other control method but it would feel very short and lack the depth of connection between you the world and Quill achieved through VR. I know it is a very niche thing but it is growing. There are headsets on the market now that are cheaper than consoles. I get you may be frustrated you can't play something you want now like I am about MYST VR. But trust me when I say the magic is in the experience not just the game itself. For those that get sick, better headsets with higher refresh rates are slowly becoming available which helps a lot with that.
