5 online seem to have been shut-off but I never play online so I personally don't care.
DOA6 feels a bit better to play to me.
DOA6 is probably better for learning characters. Better tutorial and there is a quest game mode where you need to win fights by performing certain actions.
I prefer DOA6's story. DOA5 felt like an endless journey of people fighting because they bumped into each other. DOA6 is more postmodern in that you don't have to play each event in order and the events are more self-contained.
DOA5 has way better stages, that is something I really miss in DOA6.
DOA5 has way more costumes in the standard game and it's more straightforward to unlock them.
DOA5 has tag team mode, allowing you to play a team of two characters. DOA6 doesn't.
DOA5 has a few more characters, but DOA6 has some exclusives of its own.
In DOA5 you can see if you've completed an arcade or time trial stage with a certain character. DOA6 doesn't show that clearly, so that might be a bit annoying if you want to complete everything.
In conclusion: I prefer the feeling of playing DOA6 but I miss content from DOA5. I recommend trying out the demo versions to see if you experience the same difference in feeling.
I'm also testing DOA6.
My opinion about the games:
DOA5
+ It's a complete package. You just need to buy Naotora Ii.
+ Even if you don't buy outfits, the standard game already have some good unlockable outfits.
+ Stages are awesome.
+ It's sexier.
+ Still looks great and have some cool visual effects.
= The gameplay is faster
-You can't buy Mai Shiranui anymore.
DOA6
+ Great Graphics
+ Quest Mode
+ The gameplay is also a lot of fun.
- Even though it was launched in 2019, it's still expensive to have all the characters.
- The girls still look great, but they toned down their outfits.
- They are not updating the game anymore and an "ultimate" version seems very unlikely.
Personally, I liked both.
They feel different from each other, but both are great.
I've missed Dead or Alive and I'm having a lot of fun.
The best thing is to try both games, but I hope it helps you in your final decision.
So I think it's better to try on your system.
DOA6 requires decent hardware.
DOA5LR is light weight as from PS3 age.
Thanks a lot, clears things up.
Helpful but what do you mean DOA5 is a complete package?
Is DOA6 not a complete package? Or missing previous gamemodes/characters from previous ones?
In this package of DOA5LR, you gain access to almost every character, you just need to buy Naotora Ii.
Also, you only need to buy DLC if you want even more outfits.
In DOA 6 you need to buy 5 or 6 (can't remember right now) characters as DLC.
There's a good number of stages and outfits, but (in my opinion) not even close to DOA5 in quantity and quality.
That's because "Last Round" is already an upgraded version of DOA5.
It was something similar to "ultra Street Fighter", when a big package expands the game in every way.
So I got this feeling that DOA5 is a bigger and more complete package.
It's also a more complete package due to the care put into it. More victory poses per character. Story and victory poses have better lip sync, the characters have more emotion than in DOA6. It might be up to preference which story mode you like better.
But yeah, you are more likely to have the option to play online in DOA6 than in DOA5. Again, I recommend playing the free versions to see if you like them. I think DOA6's Core Fighters even let's you play online.
That should work for a while.. ;)
DOA 6 never gained traction and sort of flopped after release. Tekken 7 got updates/characters/balancing/Quality DLC while DOA 6 had no news on updates and crazy pricing (2k USD for all DLC at launch. A season pass was like 93 bucks). The game felt abandoned. The model reminds me of GranBlue Fantasy VS (Somehow GBF is in EVO).
To me DOA 2/ULtimate and DOA5LR (on sale) are the best ones to play/get as a DOA fan.
