Unlocking the Expansion Project Achievement

I have created 12 villager food requests and harvested over 50 crops. I went to the area and the gate is not open. Tried talking to Aubrey but he only wants to sell me seeds. Is there something I am missing or doing wrong?

You need to harvest 120 crops to unlock the back of the farm
