The sounds are attrocious.
It could possibly be a good game, if that glarring issue wasnt present.
Because of that however, i never can get into Deathwing and take it serious.
Darktide will with a high chance solve that issue.
Fatshark are able to implement proper sounddesign and get a solid Warhammer feeling across.
Their weapons sound meaty, the ambience sounds are great, the footsteps and character sounds are immersive.
Deathwing couldnt bring any of that to the table.
The gunsounds are horribly unworthy of a Bolter, moving sounds like im wearing a jumpsuit and not a Terminator Armor walking through a Hulk, the ambience doesnt do the setting or the premise any justice.
I can easily overlook flaws in gamedesign, lore or whatever, as long as the feeling is on point.
Vermintide manages to do that and Darktide will probably as well.
In that perspective, my thoughts on Darktide are:
Finally a first person Warhammer 40k shooter. Darktide does not have to replace Deathwing, because theres not really anything to replace. As far as im concerned, Deathwing never existed.
Sorry you feel that way. I really enjoyed this game, but I definitely think it will absolutely die when darktide comes out. Sadly, all roleplay this game gave dies with it too, unless you like to pretend to be a typical foot soldier at risk of death by commissar. The community is what makes Deathwing, at minimum, enjoyable.
Fatshark have great experience with the genre too, learning across 2 different titles over years. They'll likely handle it very well.
That being said, there's a big difference between being a SM in Terminator armor and being a Guardsman. I don't think DW will die but a lot of people will move on.
yea great experience milking cows
To be honest sound effect is the least of my concerns regarding Deathwing, the game has so many flaws ... Shame cause it also does lots of things right!!
I believe that Darktide mechanic will be a lot tidier, the studio has more experience in that kind of game. But yeah I'm not big about playing squishy guardsmen.
Guardsmen, inquisiton storm troopers etc. lmits the options of enemies. Can`t see them fighting against greater deamons.
I also think it will be much better then SH/DW. Both Vermintides are.
Hope it will not finish on big promisses with post launch support just as it was with both Vermintides.
SH/DW is dead already anyway. No support for a long time, really small playerbase. Darktide will suck out its remaining players.
As for the sounds, I don't care much. I am more annoyed by some flaws like psykers who can 1HKO you or the stupid AI that is completely useless in NM. Or the stormbolters which are week as a peashooter, while they should fire small-rpgs according to the lore.
I was pretty excited for Deathwing because I am a fan of Streum On after EYE: Divine Cybermancy. While it's a heavily flawed game that is a bit difficult to make complete sense of, it remains an RPG-Shooter that stands out to me and I still go back and play.
Deathwing was a bit of a disappointment for me, it does a lot right but also feels like it is missing something. I still haven't played the Enhanced Edition, but I remember how buggy the original was even in later builds. Performance also soiled the bed in the campaign.
I thought Streum On getting to work on some 40K material would be a match made in heaven, but I would say it fell just a bit short.
However to wrap up my rant here, while I don't particularly desire to follow Fatshark's work that closely, I still want to see what Streum On does next.
But their loot system is great, whats your problem in particular?! I get it in Vermintide 1 it was pretty terrible although the notice boards helped but in Vermintide 2 its far far better and I had no problems to get all highend loot for all my characters without much grind.
