Am I misunderstanding Hidden Tooth / Bite Down?
I was under the impression that if you use it, it kills you and lets you resurrect but doesn't prevent resurrection blockage provided you haven't resurrected before in the fight, but I used it when I was low health, got back up, got killed again, and instead had a true death despite not having died other than using bite down?

Second (and third) resurrection node fills up slowly when you deathblow things. Was the circle not completely filled? If so, is irrelevant whether it's blocked or not, you won't be able to resurrect a second time.

Yeah I figured that out after the fact. Honestly I never bothered with bite down until I got to Sword Saint Isshin the other day and I'm throwing everything but the kitchen sink trying to kill the guy LOL

It's an interesting idea if you get what they're trying to let you do with your resurrective power, but in my experience, just pretending the mechanic doesn't exist and fighting as you normally would is the best option 100% of the time.

Yeah that's what I ended up deciding. Honestly there were a *lot* of consumables in this game that I didn't really find much use for, but hey at least I can sell them lol
