Apparently I am struggling with the easiest boss of the game. First and second phase are easy. But in the third phase I keep getting killed by some kind of fog attack. I tried dodging it but I can't evade it. When I watch other playthroughs I don't see people getting that attack. There is the aggressive up and down swinging 4-5 times, then the swipe 2 times, then the branches appear. But I get the fog attack. Then it repeats. And only then the branches appear. How to evade the fog?

You have a screenshot of this "fog attack"? Cause only thing I can think of is that when it roars, a large whirlwind comes around it which usually flings you away. Unless you stand right under the dragon, in which you will take damage.

I know what you mean with the whirlwind but that's not what I mean, it only appears when his health is down to 10%. I would have taken a screenshot but now I managed to beat him already. But I would still be interested how to evade it. I will see if I can find a video of it.

After watching around 10 different videos of the boss fight, I could not find a single one with that specific attack. So I redid the boss fight via the reflections of strength and captured it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VK0H9532R0 you can see it if you skip to 3:10. Seems like for most other people when he pauses there, the branches appear. For me, fog attack and then repeat a second cycle of swinging and swiping attacks and then only branches appear.

Haha this is so unusual. I don't think I've ever seen this attack before. I went in to test it and there's 2 things you're doing that are "causing" this. First, that attack only happens if you take too long to get to the tree and reverse the lightning at the end of the fight. After it does the flurry of attacks I mean. The second thing is that you're circling behind the dragon. The trees only spawn "in front" of it.

To be safe, lock-on, and deflect every attack (except the single perilous it has that are all sweeps). Stop running like a headless chicken and just deflect the wind slashes and jump. Or, if you do continue to run, lock-on to always have it in view, and keep in mind where in the arena you are at all time, so you can quickly rush to his "front" and get to the tree with lightning.

I am not sure what you mean exactly by "reversing the lightning at the end of the fight". But my main question was how to dodge that attack and not take damage from it.

But yea avoiding the attack from happening altogether is one solution. Thanks for the tips, will try on my next playthrough.

After you get to that phase, you're seeing the mist attack on, all the dragon does is a flurry of slashes and sweeps, and then the trees spawn, one with lightning for you to hit the dragon one last time and bring it down for a deathblow. Only at this phase it will use the attack that's killing you. And as far as I can tell, there's no dodging or blocking it. You can try the umbrella. As I mentioned, I've never seen the attack before. Ideally you should rush to the trees the moment they show up, and even try to close the distance a little bit while it's doing the flurry.

No wonder I have never seen that attack lol! Why are you running around behind it? That's not going to happen if you just stay in front of it, where the trees are. Which is your answer on how you avoid it. Pretty simple xD

Umbrella might work, didn't think of that. I will try next time.

There is no "running behind it". If I could run behind it, the boss design would be pretty stupid. If I was running behind it, his attacks could not reach me as I would also be behind his attacks. But as you clearly can see, the boss actually moves with me whereever I go as I have to keep avoiding his attacks and there exists no "behind" or "front". All that changes with what I do is the camera angle and that I keep running in one direction instead of staying in a more limited left/right range. That camera angle is also logical because physics. if he uses long-rage vertical attacks and I am standing far away in the distance, it is much easier to predict evading them by walking/jumping away horizontally rather than jumping left or right while having the camera locked on him. I took zero damage with that strategy because it is that predictable.

I meant "runing behind it" as from the original positioning. The location where you spawn in has a lot of room, the big dragon and the trees in front of it. That is what I concider the "front", opposed the "back" which has no trees and limited space. So basically, there is the right and easy place to be and the wrong and hard place to be.

Sidenote regarding the fight. I personally am always locked on to him, whether I am runing from his attacks or parrying them. Nowadays I am just parrying those attacks instead of runing from them, mostly because I find it easier. The parry timing in this fight is among the most generous in this game. Even if it feels like some attacks are simply blocked, I do parry them. The sound that parrying literal wind makes, makes me always doubt that if it was a block or parry lol. Also, that video...runing from his attacks while not looking at him....among the scariest things I've seen :|

The trees spawn from whichever position you are facing the boss. It doesn't matter where you stand or if you moved away from the position you originally spawned in. The boss is fixed in its position in the middle and will face you whereever you are moving around it. The trees spawn close to him tho instead of far away from him where he keeps flinging you away to.

Either way, everyone has their own playstyle and if yours works, that's all that matters. To me, it just felt like the method with the least amount of effort and safest is to just run away from his vertical attacks facing away from them and moving horizontally, especially as they get more aggressive in the last phase.
