Game is too hard
Elden Ring was great but playing this game is a whole different league. Sheesh.

UPDATE 12/16/2022: I beat the game, I died a lot but each victory was pretty awesome. I underestimated consumables such as divine confetti and so fourth, I actually started paying attention to skills that would aid me in battle. It was worth it and currently on my 2nd playthorugh.

Payback felt awesome against Genichiro on the initial encounter.

Really? I find Elden Ring harder to be honest. And I don't mean now after multiple playthroughs, but on the very first one.

What exactly are you struggling with?

Sword & Dodge mechanics, click timing , navigating the maps, I feel that any enemy takes a good chuck of my health, the list goes on lol. I feel that Sekiro visually appealing but I can’t beat it unfortunately haha

Dodge less and deflect more. Enemies hit harder but you also have a 100% physical blocking mechanic and a deflection mechanic that guarantees your posture can't be broken so long as you time it right.

The best suggestion I can tell you is to forget you're playing a From Software game. Actively tell yourself "this is 100% new and I've never played anything like this before", because nothing will trip you worse in Sekiro than playing it like Souls or Elden Ring.

The combat pacing is different, there’s very little downtime and you shouldn’t be letting your opponents have any downtime either. If you’re not deflecting you should be attacking. Remember, there’s no stamina here. Sprint, dodge, counter, block, deflect, attack, interrupt, and very importantly, SPRINT as needed.

I love the difficulty of Sekiro. Wish all FS games were on this level of challenge.

And @ the original poster:

Dont give up. If you've beaten a FS game, this proves that you have the capability to beat all the others, too. There are a lot of people who just cant get into this cycle of extreme challenge -> frustration -> ambition too to better -> mindfulness and concentration too find the weakness of a challenge/the failuires you made -> victory.

The individual mechanics may be different in Sekiro, but the overall "structure" of the difficulty curve is the same. You don't need either luck nor grinding to beat the game. The only things you need are mindfulness, concentration and an ongoing motivation.

often times in life its the hardest things that are the best and most rewarding.

Switching from another From game to this basically teaches you to parry A LOT. It takes quite some time to adjust, I think it took me like 10 hours before I clicked with the combat. Dodging is not your main way of avoiding damage here unlike their other games, parrying is your best move for like 60% of enemy attacks if not more. You might just need to practise this on regular enemies a bit. Red symbol = mikiri counter when its a thrust (you can learn it in skills), jump + jump on the enemy if it is a sweep and lastly its a dodge if the enemy does a grab. Pretty much everything else can be parried.

Its a different game, alright.

at least this game is more linear. you dont ride around doing the same ♥♥♥♥ 500 times.

Its learning curve is much more steep, but it's not necessarily hard. Only on my third playthrough I really stopped resorting to dodging and relied as much as possible on parrying. No red kanji? Don't dodge, parry.

Learning how to play this game is like riding a bike. You'll build on your experience, whereas Elden Ring is much more about optimizing your build and using the right weapon.

Well the more you play and the better you get you will find out there are actual attacks you should dodge ;D

It can be quite usefull.

I don't mind hard. I mind not truly understanding what I did right

The vanilla playthrough does forgive a lot of mistakes because the boss posture meter and health is much lower than new game+ (and demon bell+charmless) They did add an option to fight the bosses from the menu, after you defeat them. I found this really good to "properly" learn how to fight them.
