Okami/ Sekiro
The Sekiro of its time!
I always see that people compare Sekiro to Bloodborne or Dark Souls.
But to me, the only game that resembles Sekiro by far is Okami.
Let's see:
Set in feudal Japan CHECK
Tons of japanese lore and mithology CHECK
Both protagonistas are wolves (one in human form lol) CHECK
Gains new abilities and moves during the game CHECK
Lots of cool combat CHECK
Gourgeous style and graphics CHECK
Cool ancient japanese music CHECK

I know I'm probably missing more stuff but I think my point is clear here, so what do you think?
Do you agree or not? if not, make your point, I'm reading y'all. =)

Both games definitely take a lot of cues from the Zelda series, but aside from that and both being set in Japan/incorporating elements of Japanese folklore there really aren't very many similarities. Gameplay aside, I think the games are too thematically distinct to really be comparable.

How in the world do you gather Sekiro takes any type of inspiration from Zelda in any way?
No, just no.

Okami is basically Legend of Zelda as a wolf though

Lock-on based combat that OoT popularized is the one thing that I can straight up say comes from Zelda. But, it has been so long and this type of action combat has been improved and used in so many other games (including all the Souls) that it’s hard to just point the finger at OoT here and call it a day.

I love Okami, it's one of my favorite games of all times... but no. Your comparisons would be true of pretty much any action-adventure game situated in an olden Japanese context (minus the wolf part). So, I kinda get where you’re coming from, but to say it compares better to Okami because of the context and mythological references than it does to Souls or BB because of the combat style feels a bit off to be perfectly honest.

Miyazaki has been putting nods to Zelda in his games for years, and the way that progression/upgrades work in Sekiro is almost identical to Zelda (gadgets which are usable in combat, heart pieces/prayer beads etc.). The previously mentioned lock-on system from Souls/Sekiro is lifted wholesale from OoT too, as is Sekiro's focus on one-on-one combat with context based attacks and counters.

I'm not arguing for a second that they're the same kind of game, but it's clear that a good amount of influence was taken from the Zelda series.

You're not wrong, but there's a bit of nuance to it. And that is simply that most of those things are standard in action-adventure regardless of the fact that some came straight from Zelda and others were simply popularized by it. So... that's what I mean when I say is kinda hard to just point fingers and Zelda and be done with it, cause even if they date back to it, is not so much that they're taken directly from those games.

A good example would be the grappling hook. AFIAK grappling hook mechanics in games go as far back as Bionic Commando on arcade. Yet, I'd be hard pressed to say that the grappling mechanic in Sekiro is taken directly from Bionic Commando (or even Tenchu where the grappling hook works different). I understand this isn't what you're saying, but I felt like putting a bit more nuance to this X mechanic came from Y game kinda debacle.

So is more like, influence over time standardizes certain mechanics or methods of delivering gamemplay that can be easily pinpointed to certain referential. Unfortunately (or not), Zelda in general is one of the most influential games in regards to the popularization of mechanics still present in most videogames, so is gonna be common place to find a bit of it in most action-adventure games almost regardless of the type or developer.
