PSA: Fix for patch 1.06 performance issues

Two words: Special K. I scoured the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ internet looking for any clues at all to fix the performance degradation caused by alt-tabbing after the recent update, and turned up empty handed. I ended up trying Special K for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles because I remembered it helped on my low end computer, and voila! It ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fixed it!

Edit: FAIR WARNING! I'd only recommend using it if you've got 100% completion or don't care about achievements since it disables them for some reason. Can't figure out why.

Yeah, I had major problems when coming back to this, and Special K was the solution I hit on as well. I'd say it's not a 100% fix for me, but these problems are significantly more rare now.

There is definitely a trade-off, i.e. I can't make or see remnants. I'll fiddle with the mod's network settings though, it'll probably be fine.

Oh, I turned those off as soon as I found out I could. I was actually livid when they added them till I realised they could be turned off. But next time I launch the game I'll try to remember to check whether or not I can use them with Special K.

does this version of special k work with 1.06? i tried it two weeks ago and it didn't unlock the frame rate. i visited the official discord and got the "newest" version of special k which consist of an overlay similar to vortex and it still didn't work as intended.

could one of you fill me in on how to make it work? thx!

Special K's site lists that as a known issue as of an unspecified patch, and recommends this instead:

That's a great mod, with many configurable features. I don't use it for FPS, but I use it to stop the camera centring when you try to lock onto an enemy and the game decides it doesn't see them, and I use it to turn off loss of XP and money on death (I played with those penalties the first four times and I frankly see no point to them).

thx, i posted this exact same moe one or two days ago. i tried to play with it the first time i tried to beat the game but it disabled achievements on my end and i really dislike me turning it on everytime before i play. also windowed mode if i recall correctly.

Yeah I only ever tried Special K after 100%ing the game because I had heard that it disabled achievements.

Oh, right, I got all the achievements ages ago. It says Cheater Mode at the bottom, so that must be what that means. Weird that it disables them even if you just use the FPS stuff, though.

you both speak about two differnt things:

gaffney: cheater mode with special k because you don't lose nothing on death hence no chivos

chain: special k shouldn't disable achievements if you don't use any "cheats" and the mod gaffney posted is not special k and disables achievements regardless.

I was actually talking about the mod I posted, not Special K. If Special K disables achievements, I had no idea. On testing, the mod I posted only says Cheater Mode if you disable the XP loss and sen loss. Can't say whether or not it disables achievements but the warning disappears.
