They are easier to get late game. Look it up on the wiki for precise info.

Activate the demon bell, otherwise you will have trouble getting these items.
Grave wax is a relatively common drop from mist noble-like enemies, located in the very last area of the game, Fountainhead Palace. Just farm the 3 dudes right at the beginning after the first boss.
Fulminated mercury can best be farmed in the Gun Fort by every enemy there as long as they got a gun.
If you're right before the final boss, there's a checkpoint in the Ashina Outskirts which allows you to repeatedly farm the red guard enemies there, they drop it very frequently.

Grave Wax: Start at the Flower Viewing Stage idol in Fountainhead Palace, and then backstab the one Palace Noble directly behind you over and over. This takes less than 10 seconds per run.

Fulminated Mercury: Aside from two fixed drops in the Father's Bell Estate, this item cannot be obtained before you defeat Divine Dragon and trigger the Red Guard invasion of Ashina Castle and Ashina Outskirts. Once you advance past the major point of no return in the game, kill the four gun-wielding Red Guard around Outskirts Wall - Stairway. This takes about 30 seconds per run.

To boost your item drop rate:
1. Get Virtuous Deed and Most Virtuous deed from the Temple Arts[/b] skill tree for a permanent boost.
2. Pop a Mibu Possession Balloon for a further boost for 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
3. Hit each enemy with Golden Vortex to get one additional drop chance each.
