Multi-Monitor Issue: When does a fix drop?
Hey there.

This mainly goes to the devs (if they read these forums at all).
The issue with multiple monitors should be well known now.
And while I'm having a blast with this game, even though it obviously hates me, I simply refuse to always unplug my monitors just to start it. It's a chore, given how my PC is placed and besides that, the plugs don't get better when they're plugged in and out all the time.
Also, I don't think that this is an acceptable workaround. Every game I own has no issues with a Monitor-Monitor-TV setup, not even Dark Souls III, just Sekiro.

So please tell me. When can we expect a hotfix for this issue to run the game flawlessly without unplugging the monitor?

Thanks for the answer in advance.

instead of unplugging what i did is made use of bigpicture mode. I went into big picture setting, selected my TV as main screen for BP, then launched the game via big picture. Works fine for me. Agreed tho, a fix would be more than welcome, but at least that's a decent workaround.

Hmm, just gave it a try, but no change unfortunately. But it was at least worth a try, thanks mate^^

PLEASE READ - THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE MULTIPLE MONITORS MIXED IN BOTH NON-HDR AND HDR DISPLAYS ARE AFFECTED. HAVING THE MAIN DISPLAY NON-HDR THE GAME WILL BE STUCK IN 20FPS.

Temporary Solution / Workaround - You need to unplug all the other monitors and then run the game. That should bring you to 60fps and you then are able to plug back in all the other monitors. But its a massive hassle having to do this every single time you are going to play Sekiro. THE DEVS NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP!!!

THIS IS A FIX Until The Devs Patch The Game - March 31st 2019
- thanks to Kaldaien for figuring out what is causing it for those on Nvidia, at least for me it certainly fixed it

I would suggest renaming nvapi64.dll in C:\Windows\System32\ and running the game. You cannot delete this file, nor should you, but moving it out of place temporarily will quickly confirm a suspicion that I have about the NVIDIA driver.

If the problem goes away after doing this, I can whip up a patch for you guys in 10-15 minutes.
Of course you may also download his mod if you prefer, new one includes it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/814380/discussions/0/1771511442678518064/

That does not work

Right-Click Desktop > Display Settings > Select each other monitors > Multiple Display > Disconnect Display

Do that to each of the other Monitors then try running the game
does not work for me either

If you have an Intel CPU, then try testing - disable Intel Speedstep in the BIOS or Intel Turbo Boost 3.0.
Well I can't, I am on an AMD Ryzen 2700x

Update to the latest Graphic Driver
My GTX970 is using the Nvidia driver: 419.67 still no change

In Display Settings, click the extended Monitor that is HDR capable, and go disable/Turn Off "Play HDR games and apps"
Still no change after turning it 'off' or 'on' on that HDR capable extended monitor

FPS Unlocker / FOV .. all mods
That has nothing to do with this Multi Monitors issue, its the devs that did something with HDR like if you have mixed monitors and that some do not have HDR you will be stuck at 20fps.

------------------------------

Its the reason the devs have in the Pinned post: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Troubleshooting Guide
https://steamcommunity.com/app/814380/discussions/0/1850323802576197652/

Low Framerate
-------------
Update graphic card drivers
Update Windows
Turn off any optimization programs, like GeForce Experience or Intel Turbo Boost Max
>>>Unplug/turn off any second monitor, especially those that don’t support HDR[support.activision.com]<<<
Make sure Dynamic Super Sampling is turned off or set very low (found in Nvidia Control Panel under 3D Settings)
Adjust in-game graphical defaults (High/Max/Low etc.) to test FPS
- If you find one of those settings significantly increases FPS then try changing each graphical settings one by one to see if a specific graphical option (like textures or anti-aliasing) was the main FPS detractor

IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE MONITOR AND ARE STUCK IN 20FPS HERE IS THE FIX FOR YOU

So i have the same 20 fps problem and i got only one monitor ... what i did was, set the game to start in admin mode, press the shortcut, so that it asks for the permission to start the game , unplug my monitor, press "left" on the keyboard and then ''enter" and plug my monitor back in and there you go 60 fps(well more or less, my pc is quite old)

Hope this helps...

The devs need to fix this issue ASAP being stuck at 20fps its so odd, makes no sense how did they not even TEST this game before release having multiple monitors. Apparently they only tested their game on HDR capable monitors and did not even think about testing multi monitors that do not support HDR. Hopefully they can come up with a fix for this... but its so weird the situation. Its a massive annoyance the "Temp Fix" being having to PHYSICALLY unplug(the dp/hdmi/dvi/vga cable from the back of your pc or unplug the monitors power cables instead) all the other monitors cable(turning off the display does not work, at least on my own testings) and only leaving your main monitor connected before running the game... then once the game is running(main menu - it should be by now more than 20fps, as in 60fps etc) you may plug back in all the other monitors and you should be good to go but its horrible you having to do this every time you want to play the game. Big annoyance for me since I have 4 monitors.

Devs need to respond if they plan to fit soon

OP why did you make the same thread 2 times? https://steamcommunity.com/app/814380/discussions/0/1850323802586258235/

I think this is a big issue. I play on my TV (= second monitor). Now I have to always tell windows, that the TV is the primary monitor, because in sekiro, you can not select the output monitor. Many games support this option.

Mod the game to 144 fps cap, your hardware will thank you.

Apparently the problem lies with From Software's 60fps cap that literally shunts your performance down since the hardware gets under utilized.

Imagine that your GPU can do 60fps with 30% of it's workload, and 144fps at 100% load, yes that's fine... But then in heavy scenes, the devs actually gimped your GPUs to perform worse when the game wants to push itself further...

Meaning when they capped the framerate at 60fps, they might have accidentally capped your GPU's max workload at like... 30%... Whoops?

Did you even READ what this thread is about? LOL next time read before posting

That FPS Unlocker does nothing for this, this issue is for people who have multiple monitors mixed in monitors that do not have HDR capabilities... which gets the game stuck at 20fps unless you unplug all the other monitors except your primary main monitor. Then afterwards you can plug back in all the other monitors

Hehee I get it ;)

Yeah tons of people are posting on here since the game is new so yeah the threads will be long gone in other pages super quickly. Hopefully we do a get a developer to chime in since we need this fixed as soon as possible since we want to be able to enjoy this game without having to deal with this annoyance of unplugging monitors.

Hmm is this issue specific to Nvidia or a certain series of cards?

I have Samsung's HDR CHG70 monitor and an Acer XF270HU and the game runs fine on Radeon VII. No 20fps lock.

Just trying to help isolate the issue,
YGSFox Mar 25, 2019 @ 4:11pm
I've experienced that I'm the only one within my friends so far, who has this issue. Everyone is using multi monitor setups.

I've got 2 identical Samsung 144Hz Curved Monitors (C24FG70) as well as a Samsung 4k TV (don't know the model)

Using an Acer Z170 pro
Intel i7 6700k
Gigabyte GTX1070

Since you're using an HDR Monitor, that resolves it for you probably Synk Error.
But none of my Monitors/TV are HDR capable.

The game runs just fine when unplugging before starting it, but I refuse to do so because the plugs wear down and it's simply inconvinient given the position of my tower.

I guess you might be on to something since your 2nd monitor the Acer that does not have HDR, right? If true then it could be specific to Nvidia this odd mixing monitor no HDR behavior.

I know this is weird to test but could you make your 2nd display(Acer) the main monitor, restart the PC just to insure it keeps it like that, then try running the game on that non-hdr display while the Samsung is used as extended display. Just to see if it would trigger the issue, if it does not happen being stuck at 20fps then it is for certain that it might be a Nvidia specific issue.

As for me, I have 4 monitors - Main display: VIAO TV 1080p 32"(no hdr), all these are extended displays: TCL 4k 55"(it has HDR but if you see my setup you will see why it is not my main display), HP 1024x768 15"(no hdr) and Samsung 900p 24"(no hdr)

Welp looks like I'm refunding it, This is unacceptable for a game released in 2019.

Bump, we need devs to respond about this - is a fix being worked on or not?
Arashi Mar 26, 2019 @ 12:52am
I have 3 monitors and never had any issues.
Weird.
