Am I too old?
I have completed DS3 twice, but as a pyromancer (pyromaniac😃) and sometimes using melee reasonably succesfully and all bosses without any help. I would dearly love to play Sekiro but am struggling even with the first mini-boss. I do remember struggling to get past first time the first boss in DS3 and still went on to complete twice. But I'm not sure I'm fast enough with S.

I hate to make this admission but I have been hooked on games since my Spectrum in 1982.

I am 72 years old!

Any other ancient people willing to admit their age on here? 👍👍👍

Age is just a number you can do it

It's probably going to take more practice than for the average guy in his 20s, but it's certainly not impossible. You just need to have the right attitude about it and not throw in the towel too easily.

Reaction time becomes less of a factor as you memorize the attack patterns of the bosses, just like in Dark Souls.

learning curve...you'll get over it. But if you hardly played any pure melee builds in Souls this is gonna be a little painful to adjust to.

Thanks for the encouragement, Chris. I'm hating getting old. I still fight it. I ride a motorbike most days. My family think I'm stupid, but the old cliche "pipe and slippers" is not for me.

Sekiro is hard. Probably the hardest Soulsgame in terms of raw fighting. But I have found that the game has a kind of rythm to it. It is almost like a rythm game in a sense, where you have to get used to the beat. Once you are attuned to the music, you can play along this great orchestra of a game with less and less failures and frustration.
Just remember to take breaks or go somewhere else If you are truly getting stuck/frustrated.

You got this, its all about memorization than reaction. This one's tougher because each boss has a lot more patterns and punishes any mistake by both chunking you for tons of health and destroying all your built up posture. Also, your left hand is gonna hurt from all the parry timing.

Love the constructive replies I'm getting! Just going ridin' on my Yamaha now. Later back to the challenge.....

Age does affect reaction based games the most. That said, realistically speaking its more depending on your hands and your mind. Can you still move them reasonably well (and without pain)? In my case while I'm not as old my hands dont move without pain and much slower making Sekiro harder then it would of been based on my skill alone.

A lot of the fights are very taxing on the hands. If the first mini boss is that much of a problem, it only gets worse.

The advice I can give myself is:

If you feel like the strain is too much don't bother to continue without a sizable break.

Good luck.

Pyro is kind of the ez mode in DS3, not to undermine your skill, just based on my own experience. Don't think it has anything to do with your age either, but sekiro is more focused on melee parry and doge spamming and you need to pay attention or you will get punished, hard.

Now that would be quite something.

Success, but slowely so. Killed 2 mini bosses now. More a protracted fight than posture kill, but hey, a kill is a kill, yeah?

i found big spacing for the caged miniboss helped me avoid the grabs, afterwhich you can use a grapple to close in.

this game's makin me feel old too :D i've been taking a nasty beating.

I'd recommend exploring a lot so you've got multiple areas to switch between

getting the prostetic tools into the mix, i find they can really help for harder stuff, suriken helped me a lot with the lady butterfly fight and using the axe to quickly eliminate the grunts when there's a bunch of them on me, or the broken horn to close distance on a quick mover.

I spent a lot of time in the early areas of the dream, just getting comfortable with the deflects and sword controls. Once i started getting used to waiting for the attack and then deflecting I got a lot more comfortable.

good luck man :)
