Camera is the hardest thing in this game.
This game itself isn't particularly difficult, but Mario 64 had a better, more functional camera. In Mario 64, the camera would go wonky sometimes, but it would usually show at least something relevant to the gameplay. Mario. A boss. The level geometry that you could walk on or interact with. Etc.

In Sekiro, the most challenging aspect of the game is, in 2019, in a third person action game with a lock-on system, to get the camera to show something useful. Maybe Sekiro? Maybe the lock-on target? Maybe the combat area? Maybe, even, some combination of the three?

Nope.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS SKY BOX! Isn't the overcast gray sky amazing!?! Or: I herd u liek wallz?

The camera was a little bit wonky in previous, recent From Software games. Dark Souls camera had that "feature," that they let you disable because somebody on the dev team had played a video game before, that made the camera have a grand mal seizure if it came near a wall. It was very useful in Anor Londo rafters or traversing Blight Town.

How is it that almost ten years later Sekiro's camera completely loses its ♥♥♥♥ with regards to the existence of walls?

From's fanboys won't let you talk bad about any aspect of their games. From's Camera is a problem, it has been since demons souls, and it hasn't improved much. You still have the major problems where if you're close to a wall the camera will just decide to stop working, or it won't show you level geometry right behind you so you can get stuck on a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pillar because the camera is like, eh whatever. I love when the LOCK feature turns off because the stupid ass camera loses sight of any enemy behind a short rock or a thin tree or something so you have to relock on, that's really great. Honestly if From could fix their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash camera I feel like 85% of people who are having a frustrating time would this game would like it a lot more.

Play with blindfolds on, and train like a true ninja.

Camera is one of the big reasons I play with KBM. I feel sorry for the peasants who have to suffer through analog panning, it truly is debilitating. Meanwhile I'll be over here with my supreme reflexes watching everything that happens no matter how many somersaults the nightjar ninjas try to do over my head and back again.

Which one is worst though? The fanboy who acts like there's nothing wrong at all with the game, or the one who wants to act like most of his fails are the game's fault and not his?

Yes, the camera can be a problem, sometimes, but let's not go insane with the exaggerations.

Try to complain about anything in this game that a lot of people are agree are a problem, like grabs hitting you in the next timezone, and you're met with a torrent of "git gud" comments. I'm not exaggerating when I say From's most zealous fans will hear no criticism of their games.

It can be the worst enemy at times.

Is the mod that increases FOV a workaround for this camera issue?

From Software have made some of my favourite games in recent years, I'm a massive fanboy and will make excuses for the majority of flaws in these games because of my absurd bias.

But the camera really is garbage, sorry From.

unlocking when tracking cant stay centered like near a wall
forced auto-wall-recovery unlike previous games
constant auto center when moving, again forced on the player

just these 3 are enough to ruin all the fun, and thats why i cant give it a positive review

Well, to be fair:
doesnt look like the guys in the videos even turned off camera-auto-wall recovery. at least it was a option in those games. in this game its forced on you

For me the camera is fine, I think of the "bad" camera as a extra layer of difficulty if you don't watch out for surroundings you are in, beeing pushed up to a corner is something that is a negative thing when it comes to all types of fighting mostly, And beeing close to a wall and hindering your movement kinda makes me have a take on that the bad camera angle gives just that, a fake way to raise the bar even higher that you need to watch and mind your surroundings and beeing pushed back in to a corner is a really bad thing for you. They allways inprinted in us from all the ninja movies and lore that be mindfull off your surroundings , to me this is one of the things they mean by it =D

I see quite a lot of threads about the bad camera yet more my 70+ hours I've had very few problems with it. I can only imagine most people who complain about it are fighting in very evasive way (dark-souls) and are constantly retreating in fights.

While it can definitely be frustrating, a lot of it is kind of by design like a previous poster said. You really are basically screwed if you take on a three v one in a tight corner with your back up against the wall. Personally, I don't think the camera is any worse or better than any other top tier 3rd person Japanese action game. Japanese devs make lock on management a skill its been that way with all the DMCS and most other japanese third person action games. You are expected to know when to lock on and when to lock off. For example, you run faster locked off and not in a circular pattern around your locked target. Knowing this, you can see a lot of speed runners not locking on in many fights with larger bosses.

Anyway, I wish they'd not make this is a skill part, but japanese devs haven't changed in forever, so I don't know if its happening anytime soon.

30 seconds into the gameplay and I noticed the camera was wonky, had one spot where I couldn't see anything because the camera decided to zoom in on a piece of a building and stay there for a couple seconds. I wasn't impressed at seeing that just a few seconds into the game.

It's sad, because we've got a good looking game with a terrible FOV and frequent bad camera angles. Also turning the character with the mouse feels off or wrong somehow. I think it's because it behaves like I'm using two analog sticks when I'm not.

I don't know why games don't have adjustable FOV, and with the thousands of games made yearly why the heck people haven't figured out how to make a system to ensure good camera angles in third person games.

camera is a controller problem, not a fromsoft problem. ive never had an issue with the camera but ive never played with controller either. i feel like sekiro's camera is amazing though. no idea why you got problems with it
