Sekiro™: Shadows Die Twice

The story kind of sucked
The best parts of it are Orangutan's story and how it mirrors yours, Great Ape and second Owl fight. But otherwise? Wolf is dumb, Genichiro is pathetic, last fight is absolutely forced, there is no character arc at all, all endings don't feel good at all. Seriously, why the ♥♥♥♥ did Kuro got back to that field? Why the best ending is sequel hook? Why only Shura feels like it belings? Why Sekiro didn't recognized Demon of Hatred?

I was commenting to the people saying dark souls story is better.

Dark Souls has better story within though. Every character in every game has motivation, goal and arc. In this one most have only goal.

But that's not story is what i'm saying. That's what they call world building. It helps you build the entire world and universe of dark souls.

The self contained story is the undead/ashen one etc trying to rekindle the first flame due to the cycle. That is literally the story you're playing.

Everything else is what they call world building. Those characters, their motivations, the lore of bosses, the lore of those NPC's, all that is technically world building.

It's a subtle difference, but an important one regardless, especially if you're gonna argue dark souls story vs Sekiro story, in which Sekiro is simply better due to it's presentation. But that's OKAY, because dark souls has never really been about the story specifically. Like it's important no doubt, as it displays the cycle, but the real appeal of dark souls is the world building.

It's not a bad thing, few games i've played have had such a fantastic world building as dark souls does, but it's not story. It's part of story, but it's not the story you're playing.

I find the game isnt about the story. Its only there to serve as a connector for you to go to different areas and accomplish certain goals. The game is about the fighting, nothing else. Why else are there so many mini bosses and a few recycled bosses/mini bosses?

Main story is okay compared to the previous titles. What lacking are the side story around each location. Also there are barely any interesting questline or exploration. Each area are just too small.

Fromsolf really need to increase their contents.

Orangutan's story while sad doesnt mirror Sekiro's and its not that amazing a story either. And second Owl fight is a lot of BS. Atleast the Sword Saint and Isshin are cool looking/feeling fights unlike him.

Isshin - sure. Sword Saint has literally zero reason to exist. One of the endings has Sekiro carving buddah in the temple and Emma gives him prosthetic to pass onto next shinobi. And in another he becomes Demon of Hatred himself. If it isn't mirroring, then i don't know what is.

Second Owl actually has some development for Wolf and shows how badass Owl actually was. And doesn't sacrifices it to make main story easier.

Because those are the bad ending and the ''normal'' ending? They dont reflect Sekiro's actually story, only what happens should he fail.
''Screw up and you get to live the rest of your life like that old and cynical guy or a bloodthirsty killer''

Leaving aside that he doesnt become a Demon of Hatred in the bad ending. Shura is something different.

What is it though? Both Emma and Issin were here to prevent Orangutan and Wolf from going Shura, i bet, and when Emma wasn't around, Orangutan became a demon, so...

The description for his memories mention that he became a demon of hatred because he failed to become a shura. I'm not sure since the game doesnt fully explain a lot of stuff, but I assume Shura is when he becomes a bloodthirsty killer with fire powers without turning into a massive literal demon.
