Take breaks and don't rush, it'll be worth it in the end
you don't feel sense of accomplishment you were just glad it's over well that kind of sums sums up my opinion on the last boss pure torture
I'm finding it pretty fun in new game plus to use the OP combat arts and upgraded prosthetics to destroy trash mobs. Maybe it will get dull pretty quick, but I think it's much more enjoyable than starting fresh with no skills again.
Might start a new game for a challenge run or something
I also died a few times in a row on phase 4 due to fiddly things like camera randomly losing lock for no apparent reason. That was really just the last nail in the coffin as to why I think it's a bad design. You shouldn't design drawn out multi-stage fights with strict failure conditions if your mechanics and systems aren't literally perfect.
That's how I felt with Demon of Hatred boss. I was having such a hard time with it that once I was done, I was just glad it was over. But it didn't feel epic, it was like a frustrating shiete storm!
Such a fantastic game, ruined by the final boss. I think From Software is getting stuck with the "fame" of making hard games, and they have to make harder everytime.
If at least the Genichiro phase were remove after beat him for the first time, I think it would be a great deal already.
If you had to to semi-cheese him like that im not sure you can say he isnt hard, tho. Running around for minutes is the easy and cheap way to beat him. No shame in doing that if you cant beat him the normal way.
Yesterday I cooled off a little and downloaded the game again to face Isshin, and it's getting better and better: I can beat Genichiro and the 1st phase of Isshin wihout receiving damage, but then the hell breaks loose. I know that I will finally manage to complete the game, but I won't be touching the demon or NG+. FS has lost it, pushing the difficulty through the roof.
This guy? Took me about 2 hours in total, and I beat him in a 40 minute or so stretch after taking a break and coming back with talismans and while refreshed. Beat him in about 30 minutes and 6-7 attempts on NG+ just recently, so it was significantly easier (but still a fun challenge for sure).
If you are the kind of person who gets enraged at video games when you die repeatedly, this game was never your cup of tea to begin with. The bosses in this game can all be beaten with practice, skill, and a bit of patience, but if your first reaction to death is "I'm not having fun" rather than "wow, that fight is a lot of fun, I need to do better next time," then things will remain tough.
It's a matter of perspective, in other words. I suggest if you are struggling against any boss in this game that you simply take a break and come back to them later. Perhaps fight some other enemies or such first, or farm up a bit for a particular skill or items or such that might help you in the fight, then fight them once you are prepared to fight them until they finally die.
