Why won’t KrakenMeister’s Civ Builder let me do anything besidès a flag?
I’ve tried a few times to use the website for my own personal use. However, whenever I click next on the create flag page, the tech tree does not load. I watch the tutorial videos and know what the page is supposed to look like, but the only button I can press on the next page is reset. Does anyone have an idea of what’s wrong on my end?

I've had the same thing happen to me. I use the Brave browser, and it might be Brave's security measures that are breaking the site. I find that if I disable shields entirely and reload the page a few times, eventually it will work.

However, I'm now facing a new problem. After fiddling around for a while, I tried to actually create a mod, and it won't let me combine civs. When I try to build a mod using a custom civ, it gives this error:

Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open './modding/requested_mods/kgflb55413769/kgflb55413769-ui/widgetui/textures/menu/civs/britons.png' at Object.openSync (fs.js:498:3) at Object.writeFileSync (fs.js:1529:35) at Object.drawFlag (/var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/random_icon.js:435:12) at writeIconsJson (/var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/server.js:583:11) at Layer.handle [as handle_request] (/var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/node_modules/express/lib/router/layer.js:95:5) at next (/var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/node_modules/express/lib/router/route.js:137:13) at /var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/server.js:443:3 at /var/www/krakenmeister.com/civbuilder/server.js:236:4 at ChildProcess.exithandler (child_process.js:374:7) at ChildProcess.emit (events.js:400:28)

It also tells me that the page is missing and asks if I want to check the Wayback Machine.

So yeah, I can make a civ, but I can't actually build a mod with that civ.
After reading a few discussions that popped up on Google results when I tried researching the problem, I started wondering if Microsoft just had the website taken down or something. I agree with some of the insider posts that I read that there needs to be a better filing system for the mud section on the game though. If there are really that many custom civilization models being posted, there needs to be someway for people looking for other stuff to find what they need. Thanks for letting me know that I’m not the only one having the issue by the way. By the way, I can’t remember what I would need to do to make a mod just local. I’ll look into it myself, but could anyone tell me how to do that just in case?

Last time I used the civ builder, I had to install the mod locally since I didn't really want to upload it to the website. I don't remember exactly how I did it, and anyway I didn't do it right, but I do remember where I had to put the mod to get it to work. I'm on Linux, with AoE2 installed on a separate hard drive, so my path was:
/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/813780/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Games/Age of Empires 2 DE/76561197988610037/mods/local
On Windows, I think it's similar, except where it says "drive_c" it would literally be your C:\ drive, and instead of "steamuser", it would be whatever your Windows username is.

Well, I may have to learn to use the Advanced Genie Editor, which has the advantage of giving more control over how a custom civ can be made. The disadvantage is that it would be a lot more work. The whole point of Krakenmeister's site was to be easy to use. I'm sure it was a lot of work to make, so I hope it gets fixed soon.
Thanks. Is Genie editor really that much harder to use? I mean, I’m pretty sure it would be. It makes sense, considering the program is used for the base programming of the game at all.

Not necessarily hard to use, just very tedious if you want to change a lot of things.

Where can I find a good tutorial for advanced genie editor? The ones I found on YouTube weren’t that great.

just trial and error, learn from scratch. look at the existing technologies and their effect as examples and go from there
I'm afraid it will happen in my computer too
