What an unfortunate decision by the devs. I was considering getting this after recently watching an lp of it and I prefer to buy my games on Gog whenever possible. But this sort of flaky attitude towards Gog users just convinced me not to bother instead.

The points made by everyone are correct. I have not made a decision yet. I just explained the issue.

Unless a game has a workshop on Steam, I always prefer to buy it on GOG. That is because with GOG I own the game and am not leasing it as with Steam.

I understand that too. BUT did anyone ever lose a game on Steam for real?

You can theoertically lose your steam library if you get banned I guess? You would have to like, commit credit card fraud against purchases to valve to do that tho I imagine. You can be the worst POS ever and you only get banned from official valve servers with VAC bans. You still keep the games.
DrLoboto 27 MAY 2020 a las 6:11 p. m.
Well, you can lose a particular version of a game you bought, if publishers or devs decide or are obliged to change something (e.g. from some GTAs the licensed music was removed, black Chuchel was recolored to orange, an update to Neverwinter Nights Enhanced made the game incompatible with 32-bit systems - they still give users access to the old version currently, but they could theoretically remove it etc.) On GOG you could keep a backup of your installers to prevent that from happening.

I guess from a developer's perspective the Steam way might actually sound appealing, staying in control of your game's version, but customers don't like giving up control over what they bought either. Granted, it's mostly just a few individual cases where it matters, but still.

I have quite a few games that were borked in one way or another cause of 'forced' updates.

It is actually getting quite annoying at how often they do this now.

New front-ends .. breaking mods, added bugs.

As mentioned before x64 versions trumping x32 versions. Direct X version changed dropping what 'was' supported. eg. DX9 being dropped for DX11.

There is quite a few good reasons to have a copy that the developer cannot break in a fashion one way or another.

Developers feeling this way about GOG is precicely WHY GOG will never be a good place for developers.

DEVS are their own worst enemy.

Ex.. We do not make good VR games cause well.. VR is not very popular.. so they are mostly half arsed hot garbage with zero support..

and they wonder why VR does't get popular..

round and round.. catch-22.

IMHO only.

Whenever people show me their receipt from another platform I give them a steam key. No problem.
I bought it on GOG. Would like to request a Steam code. Took a snapshot of my receipt.

9/10 people that prefer DRM-free games are pirates. And people who claim not to be pirates and argue about offline alternatives when they are in fact possible to play offline in a steam client. If you want to put it in a USB-stick and install it at every friends house then you're pirating it because you're copying the game for free for others. You're just doing it physically instead of peer2peer.

I don't know where you get your numbers from; I don't think there are any solid numbers about pirates.
I can just say, looking at the sale numbers on different platforms, that 98-99% of players don't care. If there is crying about DRM stuff in the gamer scene, it must come from a really vocal but tiny minority. 1-2% tiny.

9/10 statistics are completely made up.

But I thought your game was DRM-free? ;)

But people being mad about DRM don't know that it is. They don't even really care it seems.

DRM in my experience has been used in the past to nullify many games that I have purchased over the years in hard copy.

All of a sudden the DRM method doesn't work in new OS .. and boom .. entire DRM CDROM library vanished.. unplayable.

Funny when the DRM is removed from said nullified CD-ROM games.. they magically work again.

Power Switch=DRM

Steam goes.. DRM takes most of the games with it.

Sad.

Games for Windows Live.. thankfully some removed that protection entirely after the shaky
?shutdown?

I care.. *NOT* to have my library removed at a whim... or changed for the worse while I have zero control over patches. One big one that is getting quite annoying is the forced inclusion of 'LOADERS' and 'FRONT-ENDS' via forced updates MANY years after game purchase.

Now some have taken to install MANY layers of DRM.. yea.. many locks.

No I do not like DRM, AT ALL.. not much to get away from it though accept to go to places like GOG.

If your game is in fact DRM free.. thanks.. at least that is a plus.

DRM has a really bad habit of affecting actual paying customers negatively too while doing basically nothing to slow down or stop pirates. A few years ago I bought a game and couldn't play it due to the DRM screwing up. It took me like 2-3 weeks to get it fixed. In that time a friend of mine pirated and beat it without any issues. And that's not the only time I've been negatively impacted by DRM, it's just one of the more egregious incidents. GFWL is a good example though where the games themselves work fine but because of Microsoft dumping GFWL without any regard for people who have bought their games the games stop working. This is why devs should be extremely careful about the DRM they do use and should remove it after sales have dropped off if they insist on using it.

Did you see my comment about getting a Steam key?
