Tower Defense Help (Spoilers)
I feel this challenge is a bit too difficult or maybe I dont have enough upgrades. Im at about 30 chests left, still cant melt steel beams. This feels like the last thing I can do right now.

Is there ANY possible way to cheese this?

Using the magnet to get a birds eye view and spamming Left+Alt for the explosion is unreliable, and leaves stragglers.
Using solely Alt worked the best for me but still wasn't fast enough firing.
Using green gun to quickly teleport back to the start or finish to get ahead of the game or stragglers didn't work as well as it sounds, because at even like round 5, you start falling behind on movement and still cant catch up.
Killing the explosive demons to kill groups is incredibly unreliable.
Using melee to finish off demons is unreliable due to movement speed restrictions, even with the bonus endgame buff.

Everything seems incredibly flat and tossed together in this challenge with little respect for the player when it comes to "This should be doable for people". It's less of a puzzle I have to figure out how to do, and more of a luck-based challenge I have to keep bashing my head against in hopes I live with 2 health left at the end. There isn't a hint Im missing to this puzzle, unless the hint is "go do something else because you dont have the tools you need to complete this" (in which case I'm just going to walk circles looking for beeps in walls for 3 hours again, praying it's a Alt-Fire upgrade and not +1 sword damage).
tldr; This game wasn't built for combat, especially at this level of precision. What can you cheese this with?

solve the riddle with the laptop dude under the chair and you are good to go for this one. I managed to to it without, but that took some time. I almost exclusively used alt fire and stomp attack in hordes.

Also it helps to get the upgrades after you beat the game.

I managed to do at around 70% completion.
I had (IIRC):
150 HP, red gun 72/32/225, max speed (or one upgrade before max speed), not sure about the red gun main damage, might have been less, I think I could kill the small enemies in one shot though.
I used the red gun with the combo mostly (combo doing 225 damage IIRC). Having good speed is important (I think I had max speed or close to it).
I had only 32 damage on my altfire so I barely used it but it was handy to kill fleeing skeletons.
No melee at all.
The tactic I used was to stay in front of the entrance and kill alll enemies with main gun + combo (shoot a number of times then spam altfire to create series of big explosions, don't do the combo one by one), then finish the slow and tough ones with gun combo at close range.
If a couple of enemies slip by, don't pursue, let them go and have the regeneration heal you, you can try to snipe them but no more than a couple of shots, it's a waste of precious time to even try it anyway.
You must keep the spot or the enemies will split, as soon as you leave the starting area it gets much harder (esp. with the wave that has archers in it, you have to run after them so make sure you destroy them on the spot).
To catch up quickly (after killing the strong enemies), you can use the gren gun to place a beacon before attacking, so at the end of the wave you can teleport back to the front (sometimes the beacon gets stuck so try different locations to have reliable teleport). But normally if you're quick enough that is not needed.

Or you can just wait to have a strong alt fire and just cheese through :)

There is an exploit: you can take 2 sponges from juicer and connect them with beam to block them from reaching the 2 exits. The small skeletons still jump over it so it's not auto win.

Maybe I just got lucky with upgrades so my gun was powerful enough but I found it rather easy. I basically played it like this:

- Move up to the sawblade thing and float up using magnet to get a good view and spam primary fire of your gun (I had the AOE upgrade) for big amounts of chip damage on several enemies
- once enemies get closer to you fall back to your two health areas you are defending and start sniping and one/two shotting everything using alternate fire of your gun, just hold down the button

For me I could always hold alternative fire and never run out of energy. Primary fire could occassionally run out but it took a long time. Maybe you are just missing certain upgrades to make this easier. But it should definitely be do-able within a few attempts.

It is balanced in a way that you need LOTS of ugprades. Some beat it a bit earlier, some later, it's also skill based. And there is an exploit possible that everyone can beat it, but it takes a lot of preparation :D

You'll want splash damage on your gun, the teleporter, and a generous amount of health regeneration and a regen speed upgrade (I forget if there's more than one)

At the start of the round, teleport yourself just outside their start and fire another teleport ball for the next round, then switch to gun and start blasting. Don't worry about lone stragglers that get by, that's what your health regen is there to deal with. As long as you don't let them get to the portals in a chain you're fine to absorb 1 or 2 every so often. Shoot above large groups and combo once to thin stuff out, twice if you feel you can nail it slightly closer, and then mop up with splash damage.

Focus on the faster monsters to start the rounds. Those are the ones that can get to the portals and really outrun your health regen. After that it's just splash damage and combo explosions. If you have the cube telefrag upgrade it can be used to great effect against larger monsters. When you're pushed back to the portals start prioritizing whatever is closest.

Don't underestimate the stomp. It does extreme aoe damage with some upgrades.

DavidM - one suggestion because I beat this at ~64 on alt, then it was like impossible to remember that the gold barrel was there. Can you put a chest down w/ the barrel so at least there's some sort of radar to remind me to come back since it was a long time until I was able to melt metal.

Does anybody know how many waves there are on this challenge?

I think there is something like 8 waves in total.

Use two sponges in red village, bring them close to the tower defense portals and connect with ping gun. Remember to connect sponges at high spots that enemies won't jump over it. Then you just stand near (perpendicularly to the wave next to sponge) and use second fire of your red gun if you upgraded it to the max

High vantage point and upgraded combo attack from the gun ended up making this a walk in the park for me.

Took a lot of upgrading though.

Even with tons of upgrades (near the end of the game), and the spong trick, i can't do it... they keep pushing the sponges and it make the purple ray disappear, plus even with high vantage and all the upgrades there's still some that pass and i just can't contain them all near the final waves

I used just one sponge - i blocked the end of the right lane with a beam between the sponge and the wood on the side. You can focus on the left lane and just kill the remaining enemys once left is clear.
Im a little late to this discussion, but what I did was in between the two rocks at the very beginning, I had the sponges block one lane and just spam stomp in the other. It worked perfectly.
