Level: Carrots - Paint Barrel

I'm currently stuck in the carrots level trying to get that darn paint barrel down. I've already Turned the lever and aimed the pad the right way and turned the pads on with the red key card But I cannot workout how to get the barrel off the ledge. I've tried throwing ever pickup-able item in the map at them. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd like to solve it today so I don't have to fight the 20 odd lava minibosses for the nth time next time I play

One of the launch pads on either side of the pool of acid needs to be activated (I wrote something similar to your response in another thread).

For those of you who are stuck like I was, here's a helpful hint.
You may try to shoot it from the wrong side first and your gun never seems to move the barrel, just trust the words of the NPC and you'll be fine

i wasn't sure what your hint meant, so i've checked glitchless's walkthrough, and he just shot it down with a single hit. that sure as hell didn't work for me when i was there, i tried to shoot it god knows how many times (yes, i mean in slo-mo from a jump pad). so what i ended up doing is throwing a sponge at it so that it lands on the other side of the barrel and then building a beam bridge to it from the cube on the ground. what did that NPC say, specifically? i'm not afraid of full spoilers since i'm well past that level.

you must not aim for the gap but a little bit before that. Your projectile will flow sideways after you fire the shot. i got best results with white keycards

i know that you have to lead a bit, and not because the projectile will flow (it wouldn't - while it should, due to gallileo's law of adding velocities), but simply because there's a delay between a mouse click and a shot. but i saw the projectile enter the gap so many times, and the barrel wouldn't budge, not even a little. so i assumed barrels are just deliberately non-shootable, because they are too heavy or whatever.

One thing I learnt in this game is that if you want to tip something over - be it a barrel or the force cube - you need to aim for the top of it. Aiming at the centre of mass usually has surprisingly little effect.

Yeah mate, As the comments above mention, you need to shoot it a certain way. I tried for probably 30minutes before successfully getting it down the correct way.
Also, fairly sure the NPC literally says you can shoot it down.

tried to check it again, but couldn't respawn the barrel since the respawn button is gone after completing the puzzle apparently, and couldn't find any NPC who would say anything about shooting it. they only mentioned painting.

This!!!!! Thank you so much. I was shooting for a good 15 minutes and it was going right into the gap but the barrel didn’t budge. After reading this, took one shot at the top of the barrel and it fell!!!!! I was trying to hit dead centre for the longest time.

I did it on the first try, probably, having the exploding ammo helps a lot!
