Bond diagrams allows special passive skill effects to be trigger during battle. Do more battle to level up the effects.

The coloured "traits" will allow various passive skills to be triggered. Try out various combinations. Even rivalry traits can also trigger some special passive effects.

The friend/rival relationship in the bond diagram will also directly influence the relationship of your and your teammates. Good relationship with someone will allow you to "spend more time" with him/her during events. (Basically, going out for a date)

I wanted to know about this as well, so is it worth it to level each one of those? I left them all on support and forgot about it, not sure if I'm missing something.

bonds are linked to "effect type" meaning you dont have to "grind" all of them
if you so wish to grind bonds then I suggest go to the Grimoire and make sure you put only low level stuff why you will need to use only one and bond plus effects on your weapons so yes this will be a PITA to do when you are soo high level enough
for example anything you have todo with a blue crossed sword on any of the characters any new effect with a blue crossed sword icon will automatically be "your current max" bond
having red spark icons (notably done with 2 or more heart icons) will definitely be a no no but if you are willing to gamble maybe you can get something out of it

Does anybody have a list of what the actual bonds do? I'm guessing bonds play an important role for late game stuff but I really have no idea what any of them do.
Looks like there is no comprehensive guide about these bonds.

I'd also like to know what do they do if leveled up, because there are a lot of them, and if it's only combat then I'll just use the ones I like the most. But then there is the maid one, or some others related to events (carrots...) and I wonder if new events unlock if you level up them (I'm currently leveling carrots to check this).

Bonds are "Resonance" occurances that happen. Be creative, while some negative ones can get you a game over, they are amusing to watch. They have little to no effect on gameplay or the story. Just something fun to do if you want a small boost. Though using them to level up a lower character isn't a bad idea. Get some time to play with it. It's kinda fun.

When the occurances happen, the picture will show up top right, and the name of the occurance top center of screen.

There is no right or wrong way to combo these. The possible combos are also quite humorous.

The Tutorial tells you about it. There is no guide in English, but looking at how the icons look, one can assume...

Blue X-ing swords - Offensive
Orange Shield - Defensive
Green Leaf - Healing

The icons give you an idea.

red heart and red house is full buff
but sometimes the red house icon can also be offensive Excella will attack or use Fated Beckon more
Orange Shield is defensive support
Sonia will keep on spaming taunt so keep her alive
Rinna and Kirika will most likely use their debuffs and buffs
a red star is basically a gamble of effects you may get something positive out of it maybe not

I can refer to the JP wiki but it will be a pain to translate

Are those buffs or effects automatic or they only use it if they have the skill equipped in the palette?

Automatic. You dont need to have skills equipped in order for them to buff/debuff/attack etc.
