English or japanese voices
So, I'm debating wether to play with english or japanese voices. Usually I choose japanese for jrpgs when available though when comparing the first cutscene in this game, I actually prefered english.

The name differences between spoken japanese and english subtitles kinda didn't sit right with me either.

Opinions? Are both equal in quality?
Also, how about Ni No Kuni 2? I'd like to stick with one language through both games.

Thanks in advance and keep it civil! ;-)

It's only about your preferences. It's up to you to decide. ;)

I understand the point in using Japanese for better lip-sync. And Olivers English voice actor can lack emotion at times.

But having a Welsh Drippy more than makes up for any downsides swapping to English VO. It lends its self to the comedic element of the character so well that not having him in the second game was such a big disappointment to me.

As for keeping the same VO between the games, I can't see any reason too, there's no crossover of characters as far as I'm aware. They're separate stories and It's perfectly fine to choose whatever VO you feel like, it shouldn't be too jarring.

Im honestly having the same debate as you but for a different reason. I started the game with Japanese and I really enjoyed it but I stopped playing once the guy with the Lamp Nose(Fairy King?) comes in because I could not keep up with the subtitles once he showed up. Im wondering if the subtitles are gonna get harder to follow throughout the game or if it was just that cutscene

Thanks for your input guys, I think I'll stick with english. I too found Drippy's welsh accent rather fitting. Also, english isn't my native language, so I can see myself not being able to keep up with the subtitles.

Is there an option for Japanese subtitles as well?
For this game I love ♥♥♥ (like most games and anime I watch) but I honestly didn't mind the Eng at all.

So, I am trying to play the game in Japanese with English subtitles and the experience is very bad. The English subtitles do not correspond to the Japanese audio, they correspond to the English audio. I can understand a lot of the Japanese and there are large differences. Additionally, most of the names were changed for some reason. Does a fan translation project or similar exist?
