So what armor is good for a midgame melee build? I have scaled leather but am to squishy with it. I found one in the giants village the sounded pretty sturdy anyone know if its worth it?

Blue Sand armor is some of the best gear you can get for early/mid-game.

Hell, you could even wear it until the end if you want. There really aren’t that many sets with comparable elemental resistances.

So you will want to mainly focus on the melee resistance stat, although the attack bonus is nothing to scoff at, but you need more defense. You need to ask yourself what you want to sacrifice. If you’re ok with movement pentalty, there are good options with heavy armor. The crafted sets from monsoon and ceirzo are decent and the blue sands armor has pretty good elemental resists. One armor that’s decent but has movement penalty, (not much though) and has stamina reduction is the kazite armor and mask from the vendor In berg.

Dont forget you can craft armor without recipies. You can make decent stuff without having to pay fortune.

Thanks for answers! Ill mess around abit and see how they work.

Elite plate is good no elemental resistance though it does have decent pocket space. The blue sand is even better with its elemental resistances. Or you can just go movement speed with the master trader set even better with a pearlbird mask and just run circles around everything and just avoid getting hit all together.

Heavy armor is a trap, stick with your scaled leather set. Learn how to abuse impact damage, and enemies will fall fast due to Scaled Leather Set's damage boost.

It really isn't a trap you can pretty much walk through most attacks with enough protection and resistance. Only thing that sucks is the stamina use and movement speed decreases but the merc tree has a skill to help with that. Like with the tsar armor set you can just stop blocking and dodge rolling away from melee in general since you take so little damage from it.

Yeah, promoting brainless play is also good right? Not that it matters since it's a single player/co-op game, and everything is relatively easy to deal with.

If Heavy Armor doesn't have elemental resistances, then you straight up die to elemental enemies if you get hit. What's the point of sitting through enemy attacks and taking damage when you can straight up ignore damage altogether by killing things fast?

That's always the question when it comes to straight DPS or Tanking.

I got the Pathfinder set last night in Levant. Its the set the guy is wearing in the games main menu screen.

Its impact resistance is good, and it has a lot of weather resistance stats which is nice. So much so I just sold my cold and hot weather gear.

Plus it looks cool. Expensive though.

You can get the best of both worlds with the blue sand set, that 2h-greataxe you get from the Hive dungeon in the spooky forest, and the Merc speed passives.

You basically take little damage and kill everything in 3-5 hits

Yeah, blue sand armor is almost end game quality, you can also buy the runic armor from the forrest village i think wich is better than blue sand in some ways

I tried Runic - it sucks ass. Huge stamina hog, slows you down like hell, and the 15% mana cost reduction is garbage.

Ultimately went back to Blue Sand.

maybe the pearlescent mail armor would be a good choice. 33 physical defense no elemental defense 15% damage boost and no movement penalties as i think its considered light armor even with its high phys resist.

Where/How do you get that set? If it doesn’t have elemental resist, you’re gonna be squishy.
