If you don't want to initiate any quests, just pay the Blood Price in the beginning of the game with the Writ of Blood, then don't bother talking to Olielle, Yzan, and Rissa. Ignoring them means you won't make any progress with main quests.
I believe most Side Quests are not time-gated.
If you pick those up, finish them ASAP because they will fail automatically after a certain amount of time.
To make things simple for you, follow this method and you’ll never fail a parallel quest.
1. Return to Cierzo ASAP upon joining a faction to do the Blue Chamber Collective parallel quest.
2. Run to the Marsh after you finish that quest and look for the corpse of a monk near the pilgrim’s path.
3. After you finish that quest, progress the main quest by talking to whoever you need to speak with, then head to Berg and go to the inn to start the Heroic Kingdom parallel quest. Save yourself some time by visiting the hut in the burning forest before going to the desert.
That’s the simple way of doing all quests without timing out of anything.
Thanks for the replies.
Timed quests are not gated behind picking them up at an NPC.
You can fail quests you never received if you don’t pick them up at all. Cierzo will be destroyed by bandits if you never visit, and you will not be warned that this is happening unless you joined the Blue Chamber.
yes. there is more. the lighthouse can be saved without spending any silver within less than 1 day aswell by just getting the tribal wit of favor from the guy on the beach. this must be done before day 3 starts otherwise he is found dead. that ends this very first timed quest.
you can speak with your friends in the town afterwards until all leave and you will not trigger any timers by doing that.
the next timers wont begin at all until you JOIN ANY FACTION. there is 4 parallel quests (3 without dlc) this means you must first travel to other citys and do a small task there before you can even trigger other timed quests. you can infinitly postphone that part for aslong as you wish.
a few notes :
minor quests are never timed (aside the merchant one in levant but that quest can be repeated ENDLESSLY anyway so failing that timer has no real consequences in the end)
and can mostly be repeated infinitly. some will have a cooldown of a few days after doing them.
missable unique items :
dreamers halberd is missable.
there is a friendly monster you can meet in each region inside a small cave (sometimes he will even rescue you when you die and youll spawn inside this cave) you can then ask him for a favor. MAKE SURE to never ask for more than TWO favors total (which ones doesnt matter) until you have meet him in all 4 basegame regions. then youll get the dreamer halberd. refuse the favors atleast 2 times in the 4 basegame regions if you want it. after the 4th meeting he will disappear forever.
IF you plan to join the holy mission faction MAKE SURE to do the above before joining them. otherwise he becomes permanently hostile and you lose the halberd aswell.
strange rusted sword.
technically missable aswell. if you sell this at any point youll miss out on a unique weapon aswell. so do not do that.
the only other missable unique items are all from factionquests to begin with. i strongly advice on useing a guide for these quests if you want certain items.
quests which have a timer (some of these timers begin at queststart others dont begin until a certain POINT in said quests the game WARNS you about most timers with BLUE TEXT SENTENCES so watch out for these when they appear and read them carefully) :
each faction has 4 mainquests.
the last 2 are ALWAYS on timers. for each faction.
all 4 quests of holy mission are timed.
quests 2 3 and 4 of blue chamber have timers.
only quests 3 and 4 of herioc kingdom have timers.
all 4 sorobor quests have timers.
there is also 4 parallel quests. these quests are shared and you can do them no matter which faction you do join. the 4th is dlc exclusive and is special in every way.
these 4 parallel quests are :
vendavel quest (this is the most notorious one that people fail as you only get a warning about this if you join blue chamber otherwise the game leaves you fully in the dark on this timer) which has a timer of 20 days. this timer begins the SECOND you join ANY FACTION. failing this timer leads to cierzo beeing destroyed permanently.
yes this means you lose your lighthouse and the items stored there aswell. YOU CAN finish this quest before joing any faction but requires the pure combat approach and thus you will miss out on a unique backpack that you cant get anywhere else (must do the sidequest for the witch warlord). however this fully prevents the timer from even starting aswell. your choice.
the other 2 are blood under the sun (this begins once the attack on berg has happend during the mainstoryline by just visiting ANY inn afterwards) you have 40 days for this quest once it has been started. you can delay the start by simply avoiding inns. the reward is a unique pistol that becomes available for sale on success.
and purifier quest. this can be started at anytime after joing any faction and has a timer of 35 days. this timer doesnt start until you actually GET THE QUEST into your journal. can be delayed just like blood under the sun. reward is acccess to a unique backpack aswell.
ALL 3 of these will FAIL AUTOMATICALLY once your THIRD factionquest begins no matter if you started thier timers or not yet. so make sure to do them all before that point.
the 4th one is from 1st dlc. this only starts its 100 day timer if you do one of these things :
visit harmatten and repair the broken golem with 3 power coils (this can be done WITHOUT joining a faction at any point in time but you must do it yourself)
OR
by simply visiting the town of harmatten AFTER joining any faction. this will force the timer to start you get no choice here. can be avoided by simply never visiting harmatten after joing a faction. the timer wont roll until you visit and see the cutscene. this is the only parallel quest that doesnt autofail when you proceed to your third factionquest in the maingame. you can still do it after finishing your 4th factionquest by simply never visiting harmatten until you are done with your faction.
of the 5 new mainquests from the three brothers (only available after you finish a factionquestline to begin with) all except the very first one are timed with 150 days each.
you can read up on the details of each quest here :

thats about it for missables/timed quests.
It isn't a lie. Lapinoire wrote "just pay the Blood Price in the beginning of the game with the Writ of Blood", that's the quest you are referring to. Once you have done that, you can ignore further quests just like Lapinoire described it. You are right though that if you are really worried about it, it's easier to look up how to complete the quest, how to get that writ of favor in paricular.
But even if you fail that quest, you simply temporarely lose access to your house, you can still get it back later. And personally, i never use the lighthouse anyway, it's too far out of the way, setting up a camp in town is easy to do and much more efficient.
There is one quest where the consequences of failing to complete it in time are pretty dire though, and it's possible to fail the quest without even knowing it exists. This part is pretty bad design in my opinion. If you want to avoid that, just go back to Cierzo right after joining a faction and deal with the issue that will be explained to you there.
