[Suggestion] Train Shunting/Switching
Im pretty sure i am not the first one suggesting it but i think this could be a really cool feature!

~ Shunting/Switching Yard

You can drop there locomotives and locomotives with cars and lonely car strings, you can pick up cars with a locomotive (switching/shunting locomotives are faster in shunting/switching).
Shunting/switching yards are much cheaper than train depots (because of less functionality/features).

~ Shunting/Switching Locomotives

All (with some exceptions?!) locomotives will have a shunting/switching level wich indicates how fast/good (if at all) they are able to shunt/switch.

~ Dynamic Train Setups

Its possible to change a train/car setup with a (switching/shunting) locomotive by driving on the end or start with your locomotive to couple the cars and then select with your cursor (also cursor selection box) cars you want to uncouple from the car string to be able to haul these selected cars to a second car string and to couple it there with the second car string by clicking on the second car string.

Sinse the begging I always wanted to have in this game locomotives that will add/remove cars while it's on the station. Like in real life.
I haven't see this in any other game

Hello,

I have also already proposed to enable shunting yards.
As @silent_shadow correctly pointed out, the RDO already have some functions that allow shunting. But only in a very limited way:
The cars and loads cannot be sorted apart after they are joined in a train.

So we need for a working system of shunting yards
1. the possibility to specify in a timetable that a loco should pick up a vehicle with a certain content, or a certain vehicle type and how many of them!

2. RDOs must be enabled to pick up wagons in other RDOs or a separate category "marshalling/shunting yard" must be created which are accessible by RDOs for tasks.

This, foremost the first point, would also make other areas finally functional: Containers could finally be used sensibly within the republic. The distribution of cars and trucks could finally be automated.

I think your suggestions @Weißbrot are too detail oriented. The differences in the shunting locomotives would not be big enough to make a real difference and your last suggestion would mean (if I understand it correctly) having to do everything by hand. It would mean programming completely new mechanics that don't really fit the game.

My main problem with the current rail distribution offices is that they will neither deliver or take delivery from a cargo platform. They have to go to the building with the cargo or that is going to take the cargo.

Yes its possible, but there have to be a direct conection between the cargo plattform and the storrage. Butr this is not really the topic here...
