There are overhauls, like YAML or Mertech. I am sorta divided on these - they are great to increase your mech building options and add complexity, but you may not exactly want that.
Alot of this complexity is sorta just busy work without making it too much fun - Pilot Overhaul mod is a good example of it, I like all the work put in it but in all honesty it did not add enough to my game to make it fun.
Easy way to research mods is also look at the workshop, first couple pages contain almost mods people generally use. A few other are on nexus only, where you could also look up top endorsed.
What exactly are these mods?
Fair, I was just giving a range. YAML is a way to go these days IF you want all of this complexity
Sounds mod makes all the explosion, movements and everything in the game sound...cooler? I found it to be pretty good for extra immersion.
Cockpit glass Break mod makes cockpit get visible cracks when you are getting hit in the head. It could me annoying because it may be in a way of.your.aim, but I found it kinda cool, feel likes you are in an actual firefight.
Do you mean these mods?

Yup and I think there is cockpit glass break mod which is sort of an addition to cause cracks
At least, this is at least something of what this topic could help me find. Thx)
I recommend looking at front 2-3 pages of workshop and nexus, best mods usually are in front row. You can decide what else you'd like modded.
yeah Steam workshop is easier to manage. I only use one mod from nexus because I believe its not on steam - Coyota mission pack, which adds more types of missions.
One of which was recommended to me was this one:
