MW5 is loads of fun too, although I have way less time in it; maybe 120 hours in EGS version (I own it here too, leave me alone). Also with great mods available--I always cringe when PGI releases major updates that break months of great work by modders. Almost like the modders contributions more.
Yeah, they are very different games is all, in same great universe. BT doesn't give you that thud-wumpf-thud-wumpf of stompy giant robots though. But gameplay is more my speed.
It's awesome that both single-player games exist and have overlapped in time. Like having Crescent Hawks Revenge and MW1.
Play both with flightstick.
BT - HOSAM
MW5 - HOSAS (this is hard but immersion with the thud-wumpf is awesome)
No MWO for me.
The two are not really comparable, as they aim at very different types of gamers. BT is for wargamers who like the original boardgame, but want something leaner and more modern, and BT is, at its heart, a hex-based turn-based wargame.
MW was always about the action. Even the first ever version with simple polygons was about that. It's a first-person shooter with giant mechs. And it's technically based on the RPG that goes with Battletech.
It just happens that they share the same background, the lore, the equipment, and so on.
You can definitely enjoy both, but MW5 is a bit easier to pick up, as the rules for FPS, even in a giant mech, is still the same: hit the other guy, concentrate fire, and try to not get hit. BT requires a bit of learning about how movement increases your evasion and hiding in the forest helps a lot less than you thought.
Both enjoy a LOT of mod support.
Comparing these two games beyond them both being set in the same universe is like comparing a steak to a pizza, each is great in their own way.
I'm finding that some of my favorite mechs from BT kinda suck in MW5., and vice versa to be honest. For example, the Jenner seems a lot more useful in MW5, where in BT it seemed nothing more than cannon fodder. Whereas the Griffin is my absolute favorite medium in BT, it leaves a lot to be desired(thus far) in MW5.

I enjoyed both MW5 and BT (had all the MW games since 2). I like MW5 more of the two though I played through the BT campaign and admit it's a fine game.
Have you heard of Megamek? There is a an opensource github project called MekHQ that allows you to run a unit by sending the MekHQ units to Megamek. It has Against the Bot settings that generates a contract and scenarios for you to send your unit at through Megamek, and then brings the results back to MekHQ,though that is limited to Mercenary units for now. However it has such things as infantry and field guns, and has so many obscure units I don't know anything about besides what's on Sarna. I recently customized a Jeep with a .5 ton refridgerator by removing some seating for the unit's Administrator founder to ride around (and flee) in, and also put a Sniper artillery cannon on an armed 150 ton support vehicle Brunel dump truck mod by taking out the AC/20s so the other two unit founders can sit off board and lob artillery safely as vehicle crew. I also put a .5 ton livestock transport bay on it because I had that much space left and the founders are all Tortugan, of the Tortugan Pirate Dominions. The chief mechanic founder character now has a mobile hatchery to raise parrots for the local pirates in. It's a completely logical addition to their combat vehicle, you see. (Don't start in Tortuga though; the contracts are bugged for that faction but work fine in other places. I cheese the GM generate contract for now until I can flee pirate space for the Inner Sphere)
Mekhq github (where releases and dev snapshots are open to the public; also if you make an account you can access the nightly builds in the Actions tab that have the latest changes)

Here is the page describing what Megamek is (the MekHQ package has it included already). It's the combat half, where the units from MekHQ are sent to fight.

Both are java programs that require java 11. There is a link somewhere around those links above that recommends an open source version of java 11 which is free.
Since I mentioned Sarna, here is a link to that. Be warned there are ads on it, unlike the above links, and at least one cross links in addition to whatever my browser didn't notice. Pretty normal for a wiki in general though imo. It's a wiki for the BT universe and is generally pretty good, though not as good as owning the sourcebooks obviously. It's where I look up all the obscure junk I salvage in MekHQ.

I am going back to Mech 3 and MC1 and 2. As far as I am concerned these games don't exist.
P.S.: Dragonfall and Hong Kong were unplayeable, first Shadowrun was mediocre. Our standards are lowered by the absolute ♥♥♥♥ the US and SE Asian developers throw at the market.

On a side note, MW5 is slightly better. Both titles are boring without extensive modding.
I'm still wondering why people willingly get into something that they hate just because they like some small things about it. I mean, I like low fantasy, overly complex systems and violence, doesn't mean that I'm gonna get super into Myfarog and complain that everything about it is Nazi trash. Why would you get into Battletech and complain about the "woke trash" in it ?
