adding mods from nexus to MW5 game folder
I have downloaded mods off the Nexus site to add to the game folder for steam. when i try to install the mod ingame; it wont let me for no apparent reason that i dont freaking know why. it keeps giving me the option to manually install a mod folder which doesnt even work because the mod is a .pak file. now idk if im suppose to put the f**king .pak file of the mod in the Paks folder of the game itself. Please help because im trying to look at videos about this and they just keep saying "Epic games folder in programs folder". I DONT HAVE A F**KING EPIC GAMES FOLDER TO DO THAT. ONLY A STEAM FOLDER.
Please help

1. Open the game folder in Steam, go into MWE5Mercs and make folder named Mods inside.
2. Download .zip file from Nexus and put it into the Mods folder.
3. Unpack mod.
4. Use in-game menu to activate mods, then restart the game.

Very easy.
do i just type .zip file on nexus mods for mechwarrior5 mercenaries?

Make sure it's in the Steam folder, also make sure it has been updated recently. Earlier mods will not work with the DLC update.

Enable mods from the mods menu in the game.
they are at the last recent update

Hey I was having a similar problem but what I found was causing the mods to be unseen in game was that they were a one folder too deep. So I had downloaded "Max Tonnage", the extract folder was Max Tonnage-114-1-01-1622301072 > Max Tonnage > then the Paks/Resources/Mods stuff.

I moved the Max tonnage out of the Max Tonnage-114-1-01-1622301072 folder and into the Mods folder and then the game could see the mod. Hope this helps.
just curious; how are the 1 folder deep for the game folder? that totally doesnt make sense. i also have that folder too. i try to put that mod in the game folder and it doesnt pop up in game

No, it alredy pre-typed for your convenience.
The structure is \Steam\steamapps\common\MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries\MW5Mercs\Mods or \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries\MW5Mercs\Mods
where you put folder with the mod name which contains mod.json file, Paks folder and Resources folder. You don't put .pak files straight up into Mods folder, you don't put zipped archive here either. You are unzipping it into this folder

By selecting "open mod folder" in the game menu you will open exactly the place where you need to unzip your mods.

omfg dude i have done the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ same process 5 times and the mods from nexus DONT FREAKING WORK!!! EVEN FROM THE LAST UPDATED ONES THAT I HAVE DOWNLOADED 2-3 TIMES. I had to make the Mod folder in the MW5Merc folder Cause there wasnt one there officially when i first installed the game.

Except, the fact that they do work.

You just can't figure it out.

Has anyone ever told you the definition of insanity?

so your saying that once ive downloaded the mod folder; i move the unzipped folder into the mod folder and unzip it there? and not in the downloads?

...Just download the zipped file and unzip it directly into that Mod folder. Alternatively you can unzip it in downloads and move it (unzipped folder) here (into mod folder), this will achive the same result.
Just make sure that you are unzipping whole root folder of the mod, not just whatever is inside because you will break the structure otherwise and game will not be able to see the mod at all.
OP, can you please just post a screenshot of your mod folder open in file explorer? At this point, frankly, your word isn't good enough, nor I think is it for the rest of the folks trying to solve the problem you're having that nobody else seems to be.

You just repeatedly saying "bro I did what you said and it doesn't work!" every single time someone explains the entire process to you again makes me think you made a folder called MW5Mercs/Mod (with no "S") or some similarly tiny syntax mistake that is actually the issue.

I will reiterate what I said in my own attempt, and bring forward a screenshot from it:

I don't want your word or promise, I want you to please take a screenshot that looks JUST like this and post it here. Choose one of the mods, inside your mod folder, inside your MW5 Mercs install directory, then take a screenshot of what it looks like inside that folder, along with the exact file structure leading to it.

OP. Show. Screenshots. It'll help a lot. My only suggestion is when unzipping the mod, make sure there's not a folder inside of another folder when you put it into the MW5 mods folder, the game won't see the mod if it's a folder within a folder, rather than mod files inside a single mod folder.

My folder line looks like this:

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries\MW5Mercs\Mods\MaxTonnage\Paks

Where the incorrect one was:

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries\MW5Mercs\Mods\Max Tonnage-114-1-01-1622301072\MaxTonnage\Paks

I respect your efforts, but several of us have already tried to communicate this.

The better way to put it is thus: when you "go into" a folder for a mod, say MaxTonnage, you SHOULD see

1.) A file called mod.json
2.) A folder called Paks
3.) Potentially other resources depending on the mod

All this stuff about zip files/other archive format, or folders, or whatever, is largely irrelevant, as it depends on whether you're the kinda person that goes with "Extract Here" or "Extract to Folder"...

When you go to the MW5Mercs folder, you should see a folder called Mods (if it's not there, you create it).

Inside that folder will be all the individual mods' folders - not archive files, not Paks, but folders.

These folders should be called whatever the mod is - CoyotesMissions, NoJumpshipAnimation, MaxTonnage, whatever the modder decided on.

If you enter any given one of those folders, you should see the files and folders described above.

If you DON'T see these, then you likely extracted to a separate folder and left it "nested", which will prevent the game from seeing it. Your described situation is a perfect example.

i do see the folders in the Max tonnage mod folder. the extraction type i only get is called "Extract all" not extract to here or extract to folder. and i did do the extraction in the Mod folder that i officially had to create in the game folder. and once again; they are not officially appearing in the mod section of the game when i go to mods to enable mods.
Old post but I ran into a similar issue and discovered a solution. If you extracted the exact folder you downloaded (example: Mod Options-537-1-1-7-1658759569). That folder will not work. You have to take the "Mod Options" folder from inside of that and move it, itself, into the Mods folder.
