So I found out you can just remove mods from your weapons
Pretty recently, I found out that in the Arsenal menu, you can choose to just remove the mods from your weapons, except the Super Shotgun for obvious reasons, which I thought was kinda neat since some weapons' mods make Chrono Strike a bit more cumbersome to use, usually ones that require you to lock into something or charge up.

And then somehow that turned into "let's do an Ultra Violence run where I just don't have any mods at all and see at what point I just give up". I just completed Super Gore Nest and I've been having a lot of fun! Its kinda funny though, without mods, it feels like I'm more focused to just keep running and shooting rather than staying in one spot and trying to get a headshot or slow down to get a meaty charge to just delete an enemy which seems to work out much better. I'd actually recommend trying this out on your own sometime cause its really fun!

And you're going a long way to disproving the folks that say they hate the game because it "forces" you to use mods on things like monster weakpoints :D

I'll have to give it a shot playing that way.

I actually didn't know people were making those complaints, I just thought it was a neat thing they just let you do. Besides, they can't use their weapons if they're dead

I like your style :D
I'm currently doing a game where the rules are I can only use SSG, Chaingun and Rocket launcher with no mods + BFG. Well I use the ballista if the maurader shows up but otherwise I stick to the rules. Also no grenade launcher though I use the flame thrower for ammo pickups. I'm replaying the game with all these weapons unlocked from the start though.

Thanks for sharing this knowledge, I didn't know!

Yeah its neat. Can also unequip mods in Doom '16. Completed a nightmare run with no mods in 16 and it was a ♥♥♥♥ load of fun.
When I first started playing eternal I really thought that the game depended on weapon mods way too much and that a no mod run (or ultimate slayer challenge - no mods, no suit upgrades, no runes run) would be next to no fun and frustrating, but after ratting this game hard, I think its definitely doable even on NM.

I don't like chronostrike too, I like that you can do skill shots mid air with heavy cannon, but I don't want it to be activated with meathook or rocket launcher, so I just disabled it.
Challenge is great, even though devs could've made milestones like 'Can't perfect perfection' for this too, so that it at least tracked somewhere.

Yeah I would have liked this being its own challenge. I've just been calling this unmodded run "Pro Doom Eternal When Civvie" because I'm a huge dork
This actually sounds like a really neat challenge, didn't know you could remove weapon mods!
Personally I dislike the way certain weapon mods make weapons look (mostly on combat shotgun and plasma gun) so it'll be nice for that too.

Also I really hope Chronostrike gets the option to be bound to an alternate key in the future, and for it to recharge even when not fully depleted since it's dumb having to deliberately drain it between fights. It's so close to being completely amazing.

Eugh, yeah my thoughts on Chrono exactly. On top of it being really cumbersome with certain mods, the fact it doesn't recharge naturally and you have to waste it to recharge is a real pain in the bumper

Yeah, the game has great QoL features. You can also adjust how long you need to hold down a key/button for for an interaction to trigger. I love that!

I'll have to give it a shot playing that way.

Do these people realize that the ballista will also remove weakpoints?
