Why does my melee attack do no damage?
I can glory kill but melee does 0 damage to the enemies for me, is this meant to happen?

Yeah. And the weaklings had like 5-10x less HP in that game too. The melee literally does 1 damage in a game where you need at least 100 damage to stagger a basic zombie. The almighty Doom Slayer, more powerful than ever before, known to be amazing with his hands, using his ♥♥♥♥!ng gauntlets can't punch basic fodder enemies to death unless it's done in a flashy animation.

I'm pretty sure they made it a point in this game to have the fodder demons not be such chumps when you walk up to them carelessly, that's why mashing melee at them without blood punch charged just rewards you with a melee swipe to the face.

When it comes to glory kills, base melee being ineffective also keeps the primary fire of the shotgun and heavy cannon relevant since they can easily stagger fodder demons, a bit more engaging than mashing a melee button.

Meleeing is still 10x more fun for a lot of people when the challenge introduced from removing normal melee damage is so trivial. The benefits don't outweigh the negatives/annoyances

Not about challenge, it’s about engagement. Switching weapons and firing requires more thinking than mashing a button.

This is quite helpful, Flame Belch and a dash will cover it too I believe... Then again, <_<

Based on everything I've read up of Doom Eternal, now they've regulated any sort of melee damage to limited use weapons. A downgrade, if ya ask me.

Sure it exists, but it's neither fun, effective, nor particularly functional most of the time.

I'm fairly certain DOOM 1 and 2 and 3 all had awful melee damage as well, I remember getting the chainsaw secret early in DOOM 1 and it being way more effective than Brass Ring Punch. Lol, This game was never about the Melee. DOOM 2016 just happened to have a extremely buffed Melee.
I am asking for refund over no melee damage. I thought my game was broke till I found this thread. I tried for an hour and couldn't get used to it. YMMV.

You know doom guy has guns right? You don't need to constantly punch.

"something" as-in it did diddly crap without Berserk.
Only D44m with the Halo-like melee actually made it useful, but then it could be used as a crutch.

Its only planned for doors and beer opening.

20% damage on Imp in Doom1 - basically exactly the same damage as 1 bullet.
0.5% damage on Imp in DE
No need to bring Halo up - Doom invented melee damage, they just managed to break it for no logical reason what-so-ever.

I knew the game is broken within first 30 seconds, and tried for 1 hour to prove myself otherwise.

The game looks gorgeous - but swinging ethereal fist was a deal breaker ... maybe even too soon.
I propose, stop wishing that the developers would change punch damage, and get a mod.

sorry but this is lowkey a useless mode. In Doom 2016 the punch put zombies/imps/soldiers to be glorykilled so you both kill and get health back but also has the challenge of having to getting those hits right to not take damage with your surroundings. That mod just makes normal melee damage both brainless insta-kill hitting and doesn't even reward you with a glory kill chance.
