BFG does massive damage, Unmaykr has better ammo
I normally use the BFG for room clearing and The Icon of Sin as he's a big target, As for the Unmaykr I use to deal with the Super Heavy or want to not waste a BFG shot
It shares the ammo with BFG, but does less damage.
BFG clears pretty much everything in its path, while unmaykr is for disposing one enemy - not much point to it and it looks like the game feels the same way about it, becuse you have to swap it with BFG to get it and you won't pick it from the wheel.
Underwhelming, but slayer gates are A LOT of fun.
While the unmaker is a huge disapointment no matter what difficulty you play? it IS worth taking on the slayer gates in the non gimmick modes.
Because of the REAL value of the slayer gates. Extra weapon points
Unmaker is not, in fact, "Better against single heavy demons than the BFG". Because you can one two combo kill the marauder the BFG, but he'll just pull out his shield in the middle of being shredded by the unmaker after a stun instead.
But, the weapon points are totally worth it. In particular as there are only about five? more than you need for everything. And 18 of your points are from slayer gates. That's enough to max out two weapon mods all by itself.
I can't understand the design choice, honestly. A BFG pistol that uses 1 ammo shot to kill 1 of any non boss demon would've been a more useful design, despite the Crucible almost fulfilling that role.
Of course, in such a situation, you will probably opt to use the BFG to thin the herd first anyway, so even then it kind of comes down to playstyle imo. I think it's honestly more a novelty and a nod to Doom 64 than anything else.
If I had my druthers, there would be a way to acquire the three demon keys to power it up and make it totally OP, as a reward for unlocking it, perhaps in a super secret, extremely difficult series of missions.
Is that a fact? Unmaykr is more ammo efficient for the damage it deals? I only used it a few times and couldn't figure out what situation it's good in.
