No automap in Classic Doom/II?
What's the key to display the automap when playing Doom or Doom II in the fortress? Did they just leave it out?

After random experimentation, I found that HOLDING Tab for about a second starts activating the map on every other frame (flashing). It's a coin flip when you let go whether you end up in the map or not, and the same again to exit it. Very strange.
Thank you

I haven't messed with it enough to know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me. The good news is that the wads are included as separate files (in <Steam Library>\steamapps\common\DOOMEternal\base\classicwads\) so you should be able to run them in other Doom ports (such as GzDoom)

Damn, that's cool. Too bad you signed a EULA saying you won't modify the game.

oh yes because those EULA really stops people from modding things....and companies usually totally go after individuals to persecute them on such illegal activities.

Just think of Apple and the Hackintosh community as one prime example.

No one will give a flying fart if some coder/moder finds a ways to mod or play them in other Doom ports. The original Doom games are legendary for these very reasons
I mean it's not like they even require modification. They're just literally the WAD files, are they not? Running the WADs 90% of us already have legit copies of - and which legit copies of are included in Eternal's file system probably as a courtesy to us all and with the expectation that we will do just that - in a sourceport isn't modifying the WADs.

Don't be surprised when Doom Eternal suddenly vanishes from your Steam library. Remember that agreement says they can revoke your license at any time.

Still, besides the discussion about modding, no automap button for OG DOOM?

We are not modifying the game, my GzDoom engine is just accessing the files and reading them.

Point out one game in history that has vanished for this reason.

Back on topic though, I couldn't use the automap, probably they'll patch it, you gotta understand the f-ed to the point of forgetting to add t he damn wads.

Running the wad files using a different engine is not modifying the game in any way, and Id/Bethesda have not installed spyware to monitor the files on your computer and report if you open the files with a different program (and if they did, that is what we should be very upset about).

As for the wad files, they are the "newer" versions that feature changes like showing pills on medkits and replacing SS soldiers with basic zombies, but otherwise are perfectly fine wad files to be used in any other engine.

(edit) To clarify, the reason I point out the wad files can be loaded in other engines is because the in-game implementation is...... atrocious. I guess it has that "retro" feel? I don't think there are any achievements related to playing it inside DE, so if you are just looking to play the classic games you are much better off loading them in a different engine.
