Am I the only one who dislikes how cartoony and noobish this game was?
Ok, I didn't know where to voice this opinion. I understand a lot of people will bash me for not praising this game to no end, but this game felt more like Happy Tree Friends rather than Doom.

Enemies felt cartoonish. They looked cool, but they just seemed silly. Everything is glowing. You HAVE to glory kill everything (Cacodemon glory kills are sooo repetitive) and some of them are awesome don't get me wrong, but every enemy has to be glowing in order for it to actually die. Even changing the HUD I couldn't get rid of the ridiculous overall color scheme of loot drops everywhere. Chainsaw kills explode into confetti loot drops of ammo rather than blood. There's no way to turn this off. All you can do is turn down the brightness of it and it's still like a giant firework show. Doomicorn was lame, but fine I'll leave that alone but I highly doubt the Doom Slayer would wear that but whatever.

Overall I think the game had awesome combat. It was exhilarating at times. I do not see how Hugo claimed that people would feel like they would keep playing after death because they know how they messed up. On Nightmare, if I have 15 extra lives, I do not fear dying buddy. Why are you not able to at least turn those off? Why are some secrets extra lives!? If I don't collect some then I don't get 100% secrets. Why do you STOP THE GAME and do POP UPS with COMPLETE EXPLANATIONS on how to kill EVERY ENEMY!? How does that encourage a player to discover the combat loop? If you tell me everything then it's not really a game of chess as they like to say it is. If I know exactly how to beat my opponent then half the battle is over. It really just becomes a matter of resource management.

Also, fast travel ruined the hunt for secrets. There is no reason to replay levels after beating the game because all I had to do was just go back and figure them out with no enemies. Minor gripe but since I'm doin it already lol.

I basically have completed the game besides Battlemode achievements. I think I am entitled to an opinion on this game, and overall I think it was great to play, but I would not play it again like I did the last one. I just felt like this game was more Happy Tree Friends than Hostel. My fear is that the next Doom is going to get all this positive fanfare and just go all in on the cartoony feel and just go straight Fortnite with Blood. They did so much perfecting the actual combat, but the presentation is just not for me. I didn't grow up with Doom. I was like two years old when the first one came out, but I think that as an adult now I'm just not into sparkles and gumdrops man. Just not into it.

Overall I give this game a 7 ;(
I was very disappointed in how easy they made this game and how different the tone was.

Ehhh, I like the more colorful look. The exploding rainbow is bit a much, but you can mute the colors on the ammo.

I agree, the game is actually garbage, I thought there was going to be player invasions, turns out its a ruse on par with with someone else at Bethesda....

Doom has been about rainbow colors, jumping and climbing since 93.

I don't understand where all of these"old school" fans get "gun play" from. That was never core to the franchise.

its like playing Super Mario World. Now i use the black and white mod so it looks like i am playing in 1930s.

Just because you throw the '93 in there doesn't mean you know what you are talking about. There was no jumping in any of the classic Doom games because they didn't need them, it was about the shooting. You should really do some research or at the very least, think about what you write before you hit that "Post Comment" button there friend.

It was about confusing as hell mazes which luckily aren't here anymore.

in terms of cartoony, I already felt that Doom 2016 was too cartoony. this game is more colorful in places, but also has way more hellish and horrifying environments than D2016 ever had, as well as making many of the enemies more demonic looking.

also, I don't know if anyone else notices this, but there seems to be a LOT of World of Warcraft influence in the art design of this game (as well as a little Mario Galaxy). those could be sources of some of the environmental cartooniness.

(it's also possible that they have to be careful not to overdo it, or they'll end up with an A rating.)

How?, I hate the confetti

A possible explanation to the cartoony look; the developers wanted the demons to be more visually similar to the demons in the classic Dooms (i.e. Doom, Doom II) mixed with the demons from Doom 2016. I think the game is MUCH more satisfying on a "fan service" level, but as far as that confetti ammo, I can definitely agree with that.

Gonna somewhat agree, somewhat disagree with some points. I'm not gonna talk about subjective parts, like "Enemies felt cartoonish". So, here I go.
First of all, I wanna say that more customization is always a good thing, so I would definitely like to see options of turning on/off "rainbow colors" and enemy tutorials. Being able to turn off extra-lives completely would also be a good thing. What's important, this alterations aren't hard to implement.

This is plainly incorrect. The only demon it can somewhat relate to is the aforementioned Cacodemon, as it's much more practical to grenade and than glory kill them asap. At least it's true before getting Balista which takes fast care of Cacodemons (With Arbalest mode it oneshots them). Other than that glory kills are used only to gain some hp back and I don't see how you HAVE to kill everything.
Also, glory kills highlights can be turned off, which makes it harder to understand when it's possible to do. Harder, but not impossible, as there are stagger animations.

This one's subjective to the core. Just want to say that IMO it's better to have this option, 'cause for me it's much better to replay levels for gameplay, not for secret hunting. Replaying solely for secret hunting was always a bit annoying for me. Also, fast travel is not needed to hunt for secrets enemy-free. I don't remember a single secret that I can't get after clearing area off all enemies.

About the "game's not hard" part I will somewhat agree. From what I've seen it's much easier to die in D:E when compared to the previous game, however, because of extra-lives it doesn't matter that much. Die, resurrect. Rince, repeat. Not saying it's necessary a bad thing, but being able to customize it would be nice without a doubt.

You are supposed to know the rules of chess, how every piece works and moves. You point doesn't make any sense.

You can turn ammo glow all the way to 0, and turn off the glory kill highlight. You can also just choose not to glory kill, although this will increase the challenge considerably as that's the primary means of obtaining health. Granted, someone wanting a more hardcore experience should probably enjoy that. Doom has always had cartoonish, brightly colored elements. It was never a super serious realism driven experience. (With the arguable exception of 3.)

The game has a very intentional gameplay loop and meta. It definitely won't appeal to everyone. Fair enough of that front.

100 percent agree.Doom 2016 had a darker, heavier vibe to it compare to this.

Doom 2016 was more tongue in cheek than this game. If anything, because of the story this game takes itself more seriously than 2016 did.

It is a shame they didn't give whiplash bobs.

Hugo said they had to censor it for marketing.
Yet another thing that just says they market this game for kids imo. Sucks they had to mute their own artistic expression.
