DOOM 64 preorder bonus ?
Is it only for people who already pre-ordered or i still get it if i pre-order later? Looking at SteamDB the Standard edition grants two additional packages, one i'd imagine is the pre-order DLC and the other being DOOM 64?

Says they added it as a pre-order bonus. So I'd assume it's for all pre-orders until release.

Pre-order DLC, which called as "One year pass" should be include in Delux Edition.
Would have been cool to get it earlier as a bonus or if people wanted to buy it separately

I don't see myself playing Eternal Day 1 now with 64 coming out the same day XD

I'm just happy we finally get a proper PC version not counting DOOM64 EX

That says Xbox, PS4 and Switch.

Does pre order count for PC as well?

Nice to see it officially on PC now

Re-reading the announcement post, it says that Doom 64 will be a pre-order bonus for ALL platforms. Then it says Doom 64 will be released on all platforms March 20, 2020 along with Doom Eternal.

Sounds like D64 will be available to purchase separately, pre-ordering just grants you a free copy. With Doom 2016, pre-orders (on PC) got a free copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Xbox users instead got Doom 1 & 2 for free. When Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was available for pre-order, people on PC got a free game... can't remember if it was Doom 2016 or either Wolfenstein The New Order or The Old Blood. In any case, it's just id Software and MachineGames rewarded their fan-base!

I hope this counts for those who pre-ordered it before this announcement too :O

I doubt that this iteration will be better than EX/Absolution. The main reason to get this would be just to complete the collection.

Ah well,
better than nothing I guess.

Saying a fan-made TC is better than the original Doom 64 is like saying the GBA, Jaguar, or PS1 ports of OG Doom are better than PC Doom.

To be fair Absolution is so pretty darn close that most players, even hardcore fans of the og Doom 64 would be hard pressed to really notice the difference. If the port ends up being KBM compatible (which it will be, would be dumb otherwise) I don't see any reason it would be much better than Absolution. If you prefer the real 64 over Absolution then it's likely a matter of control scheme (or maybe a matter of engine rendering, but afaik Doom 64 had a much better engine that is pretty close to GZDoom's hardware renderer).

GBA and Jaguar Doom both make huge sacrifices, this is why they're inferior. They make sacrifices in terms of controls, graphics, almost everything. The Jaguar version doesn't even have all levels. On the other end, many people like PSX Doom as much or better as og Doom ;) (I'm on the "as-much" team personally) because while it did have limitations, it used these limitations in its favor, by creating a very different experience !

Yeah, that's totally a fair point. If Doom 64 on PC is released "how it would have been back in 1997," it wouldn't have KB+M or even controller support. So that would make it inferior to the fan-made ports compatible with GZDoom. Especially if the game isn't in .wad format, then you'd even have to play it as is.

And I agree, the ports did have to make sacrifices. In fact, GBA Doom at the time it was released was impressive. I think the biggest appeal about PS1 Doom is that, while it was somewhat dulled down, it wasn't a completely watered down port. For tons of Doom fans, it even brings a lot of nostalgia. I mean, I'd rather play even GBA Doom than no Doom at all. But I've just been somewhat spoiled, because I have a hacked PS Vita console with Chocolate Doom on it, so even on the go, I'm able to play the "PC versions" of Doom 1 & 2 q:

Well I contacted Beth support about the preorder and they had this to say.

"At this time, we do not have full details for how you will receive the pre-order bonuses."

I know that's a pretty standard reply but I'm always super cautious around bethesda now. I won't be surprised if they will just give people a key to redeem on the beth launcher for a way to get people on their platform.

I think they've learned their lesson. When Doom Eternal was first announced, they originally stated that "Doom Eternal will launch for PC on Bethesda Launcher." Same deal with Rage 2. After some backlash (several months later), they officially stated that both would launch on Steam as well. Too many PC gamers made it clear they'd refuse to purchase it on Bethesda's crappy launcher.

I hope you're right because I'm going to preorder eventually and I hope i don't have to touch the beth launcher.

They learned more when they re-launched Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 for all platforms. They made it players have to log in through bethesda account when they play with Nintendo Switch(I don't know it was same through other platforms but either way it was quite silly) and that made people piss off. Eventually, dev hurriedly provide an update that players no longer need to log in.

Therefore, you will not have to touch any bethesda launcher or need to bethesda account after game launch, unless they support mod through stupid bethesda creation club. So don't worry. In fact, we're already using the Doom eternal steam community via Steam not the Doom Eternal Bethesda community page, aren't we?

Same here, I hope they wont give a key to redeem things on their launcher. I prefer much more getting it on steam.
