The game was initially intended to be solo, and mighty fine as is, thank you very much. But for some reason there is a crowd of brain-dead people who whine for coop in each and every game, pestering devs and review-bombing if it's not added within minutes.
The only mistake the devs did was to say they'd oblige. If it were me, the reply would have been "this game is solo andalways will be". They're being way too nice.
I agree with you fully and if the ones complaining about coop not being in game yet could just read the posts about it from the devs they will hopefully understand that the entire game and engine has to be rebuilt for coop to be possible (posts can be found on discord and steam)
No, they didn't. I was following this game long before it was released, and that was not the plan. They gave in to adding coop "when it's done", and certainly not "first thing", because a lot of ding-dongs kept pestering them about it.
I'm sure they are interested in doing it too, else they would just have refused. But it was most certainly not intended to be included in the first place, and absolutely not "first thing to come".
Co-op mode doesn't even align with the story - you're supposed to be a lone explorer of an alien planet. Your only buddy is your mech suit.
Seems like "every-game-must-be-multiplayer" is an ideology for some gamers.
We asked for coop back at launch, and still nothing but 3 DLC's that no one was asking for. We wanted content after the end game of the original story. doing DLC's before just makes the already beatable end game, even more beatable.
It truly makes no sense as the one thing people wanted was coop, and they have let this game die off before giving it.
That is 100% my issue with the game.
Also, the release of DLCs do not delay the progress of coop development as much as people think. See this article posted in 2023 https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/780310/view/3683429634490247606. There was also an article or discussion thread posted earlier that goes into this in much more details but I could not find it.
Basically, as of 2023, the studio had 15 staff, only 6 of them are programmers. These 6 programmers have been focusing on coop. The remaining 9 people cannot really contribute to coop development because they lack the technical skills, so they make DLCs and other patches instead.
