Early game transporting energy question
so i'm at the point where i just researched geothermal and gas energy. don't have any sludge near me on first map it's pretty far away. have one geothermal but that's not even enough. there is a spot near me that has 3 geothermals together so i think i should get their energy.

1)how do you expand your base? do you create a new small base near there or just expand your main base? if i create an outpostlike base there is the only way to transfer that energy to main base is to build energy connectors all the way?
2)how do i defend it in either situation?

Firstly, i`ll comment on "3 geothermals together" idea. T1 geothermal gives you 200 power. And you will not be able to level it up for quite some time. Don`t get me wrong, 600 power is a nice thing, but it doesn`t justify base location by itself. Sludge source is a better choice right away.

As for whole energy transporting - just don`t. It was not supposed to be this way and it fails on multiple fronts. Choose places that you can both localy power up and gain something.

Usually i build small defense bases anywhere far away from mainbase, because aliens always choose shortest way to any structure. As tower i use any ammo tower, so i dont have to build much power there.

Geothermals i usually use vor cultuvators, where i place 1 culitvator in center and 4 harvester around them.

Early game i usually don't transport energy, i even try to keep things separated to avoid full base shutdown, which is deadly with the first version of towers.

Build what you need next to the power.

Small outpost is better that huge base, small outpost can self repair with 1 tower.

You dont need defence the whole map, aliens rush the nearest buildings.

So outpost near edge of map should be like fort to bait them, you don't need to wall whole map

You have access to wind power plants for the whole game. These are all you need to power turrets and mines. Build more than enough to power everything and throw in some energy storages to carry you through fights and low wind weather.

You don't need more power than wind unless you're powering AI hubs, communications hubs, etc., which can all just go in your main base area.

Some of the non-jungle biomes make wind significantly weaker, but provide abundant lava or sludge to make using lava and gas power plants easy.

Or in mini-outpost around your Geothermal and your sludge Gas Power etc

yeah i get the smaller powerbases idea but how do you work this? I mean the main base only has 1 geothermal so i built like 30 wind just to produce enough energy. got a gas power base far on the west but i made it a fortress like the other posts said. but it still has so much excess power from 1 gas plant i moved all my ai hubs there too. wish there was an easier way to get that power to main base

Doesn't matter what you want to protect, a fortified outpost closer to the map border is all you need to never get attacked at the spot that is precious to you.
