BS Remaster probably uses same engine (UE 2.5).
Yea i read it was still on UE 2.5 somewhere, they would have said so if it had been ported to another engine. It would cost too much to port it i guess, it would have been awesome though on UE4
Nice cashgrab 2k...
they still use id tech 3 damn thought they changed it after black ops 2 or something
LOL it is free!
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Lol yes how dare they give us stuff for free.
It still kinda looks like a very low effort to me.
Look at the vanishing of ethan carter. It's made by a small indy dev and they've managed to transfer the initial UE3 version to UE4... all done from scratch.
Bioshock is 9 years old and the UE2 engine suffers from huge limitations like outdated shaders, streaming issues, bad lighting and many other things. Even UE3 is pretty much on it's last legs... Why not at least make the remaster collection UE3 based to round things up?
Free or not, there's no reason to defend this imo. But i take back the "cashgrab" comment.
Epic Games designed a lot of Unreal 4 to be able to port UE3 assets right off the bat. The editor itself is practically an advanced version of UE3's infact.
Unreal 3 if I recall dropped a lot of Unreal 2 functionality for better processes and extensions. It's called Unreal 2.5 because they used Unreal 2 and developed features for it to make it look comparable to new engines at the time because i'm pretty sure Unreal 3 had only just became reliable and nearly feature complete just a year before BioShock's release, which they would have been fairly far into development by then. It was also appearantly very expensive to get a license as well.
I mean, it's Unreal 2 with extra features. A 2002 engine.
That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ impressive because the graphics were greatly stylized in a way that makes it hold up very well compared to an Indie dev using Unreal 3 or Unreal 4.
Rarely have I ever seen water effects in a game that look so good.
