I hate how luck based this game is
I know that dragon quest games tend to be turn based, but it's so frustating that i can do everything right and still lose through no fault of my own. I would say that by definition, that is what is known as, unfair. And it drives me crazy. On draconian mode, i am incredibly dependant on making full use of every turn, and if my sap or dazzle misses, or shypox happens, or my whole team gets kasnoozed, it's a guaranteed loss, and it reduces every boss fight to a series of coinflips with minimal skill involvement.

With full Draconian, yes, there are a few fights like this. However, the majority, no. You have options to minimize these things and they work. Respec your characters, use different set ups. Try things, they work. Thus far I am only willing to say RNG is too punishing for the hero solo fights. Many of them more than 1 shycancer or a shycancer at the wrong time are a loss. However, even then I have never pushed into double digit attempts. Although the Quadraslash training came close.

Yea the quadraslash training was easily the hardest, it took quite a few levels for me to realize that rabs pearly gates attack scaled in damage

I'm really really stuck on the act 2 octogonia fights atm, 2 boss fights in a row with no break inbetween is brutal

Really? I got them in one try. Sylvando carries hard. Sobering Slap and Hustle Dance do work. Dora hits harder than either of them and she was several levels ago.

How is your Hedrick specced? Axe is the best. He can provide Sap with Scrap Mettle and big damage with Parallax.

I'm just constantly getting enthralled and going through all my mp to make up for that, and when the second fight starts, i'm all out of heals and helpless

this is a real question you should ask yourself too: Why do you want to do it in draconian mode?

Because i'm awesome.

To be completely clear here: DQ is completely RNG (random) based in every single aspect of combat, so this thread is absolutely correct.
And the dev knows this. They chose to make it this much luck based. Why is there a hitchance? Why can status ailment spells miss. Why is there a crit/evade/block/parry/dodge chance? Every aspect is random.
They could have just revamped the entire thing. If a shield gives 6% block chance, just make it give 6% reduced damage taken. It's virutally the same thing just that you don't have crazy luckbased moments in which you randomly block (or don`t) and it decides the battle.

I am all against RNG in games. I got a lot of crap over the years since i'm apparently the only one. This combat system is hard to balance and can only barely be described as requireing skill or strategy.

However, that said: i did not mind the RNG in DQ11 too much. Most fights are easy enough and you will get used to it eventually.

And as for why he wants to do it indraconian mode: most likely because normal mode is waaaaaaahaaahaaaahaaay too easy. Like way out of proportion.

Finally someone gets it

Without Rng games would be way too easy as you could just figure out a pattern and be prepared for it at all times.

Draconian Settings tend to "balance" the game, at least imo. Without them there is harldy anything that comes even close to offering a challenge.
There are however a few fights that tend to really test your line up/strategy.

Namely, for me at least, Slayer of the Sands, Dora, Tatsunaga (this one drove me mad ...) and Trial Isle Boss 3.
You can go in with "perfect" set ups and still, a single unlucky desperation attack on a squsiyh target or failing to keep the debuffs up (resulting in the boss taking 4-6 actions) are close to impossible to recover from.

Wouldn't want it any other way tho, it felt damn nice to clear those fights. :)

well you've turned shypox, what do you expect. The description is basically screams RNG. I think harder enemies and exp balance is all that needed, everything else seems unnecessary. With those options game doesnt feel like RNG most of the time.
