Possibly the canon name JP decided, or a random name I come up from my head, maybe Fenrich.
Still holding out hope though that someone will make a mod so you aren't forced to walk around as the dude. DQ8 allowed you to switch your on screen character so no idea why they didn't do the same in this game.
The reason of that, is because there are way too many more animations to do this time around, instead of just running and mounting and doing it for 7 characters would have been quite a bit taxing. I would have liked too if I could play as any other character but I'm fine with this. After all it makes sense that you, the hero, lead the others around.
why mess with it?
For me it's because every single given protagonist name in games where the name is blank so you have to pick, the name are all atrocious.
Chrono Trigger you're Crono. That's not a name.
In Suikoden his name is McDohl, awful.
Suikoden 2, it's Riou not even sure that's a name. Pass.
Suikoden 5 his name is Freyjadour. Literally tragic.
In DQ8 it's either Guv or Auster depending on who you ask, terrible.
In the original Pokemon you're either Red or Blue. Those aren't even names just the colours of their respective games.
I just really never like their "cannon" names. Aside from Suikoden 4 and Chrono Cross I haven't really ever seen a male protagonist with a decent name.
wtf
Report him for sexual harassment because it's gross and vile.
