Unsure but it's 30fps even on PS4 Pro so I'm assuming the game has been built around a solid 30fps

It's an Unreal engine game. Those don't tend to lock to 30FPS.

The reason Japanese developers sometimes get stuck in 30FPS land is because they develop engines only to work on one console. That's not an issue here. None of the game logic should be locked to FPS rates, so at the very worst, the FPS stuff should be fixable... likely won't even be an issue on PC - but who knows.
If you want to refund a turn based jrpg because its locked in 30 fps, maybe you play wrong genre. sometimes 30 fps is locked into the game code to make everything run at a certain speed, and if you double it, it can really mess up the game code.

It will be 60fps on PC as Unreal 4 runs better on PC than the crappy PS4.

The genre really doesn't matter when it comes to frame-rates. Higher frame-rates = smoother gameplay, controls and look. Not to mention that 30FPS look quite bad on high refresh-rate monitors.

There's no need to tie frame-rates to game logic in the first place, so if they coded their game correctly, then everything will be fine no matter what frame-rate the game is running at.

You darn kids and your framerates. Back in my day, the overworld characters only had two sprites and in combat nothing moved at all. The screen just flashed white (and sometimes red).

yes in the options you can set game to either 30 or 60 fps
K.o.K Sep 4, 2018 @ 7:13pm
the framrates can be unlocked too

60fps option, not hard to achieve I dont think. I have a GTX 980 and can easily get 1440p 60fps on max settings.

Yes and if you tweak the config file you can unlock the framerate, I'm playing it at 1440p / 144fps

can you explain what you tweak poppi?

Copy and paste this into your start menu

Documents\My Games\DRAGON QUEST XI\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Open the file called GameUserSettings.ini

Look for the line that says

FrameRateLimit=60.000000

Change it to what ever FPS you want for example I have mine set to

FrameRateLimit=144.000000

Do note if you go into the FPS setting screen in the game at anytime it will be changed back to 60 FPS
