Combat too hard?
I suck at action games but I've played previous tales games and I find this game really hard on normal. The CP system sucks and just adds additional difficulty for no reason. The enemies move too fast and there's too much going on to really be able to focus. And the party members talk WAY too much in battle. The AI doesn't dodge well and constantly drains the CP. I need to drop the difficulty to story to beat most of the bosses and even then it becomes a slog of spamming attacks and widdling down absurdly high HP bosses.

It is quite a challenging game, yes, but with practice it can be done. Also try to equip yourself correctly before each boss, especially accessories can make your life much easier.

I've played RPGs all my life, I know to upgrade equipment. It's not that. It's just too fast and frantic for me.

The CP system is a great upgrade in Tales games. In every other Tales game your caster would chew through your mana casting offensive spell. It's basically exactly the same but now you only use your healing resource when you are actually healing and not when your caster does damage during a fight on the way to the boss or whatever you are doing. If you want to do more damage and make pretty much all the fights in the game trivial just spam reigning slash after downing bosses with whatever boost strike they are weak to.

CP is only an "upgrade" from games that used TP. It's a distinct downgrade from all of the CC-based games. Since you cannot stop your teammates from taking damage, and you need to keep them healed, it's basically just a constantly-draining resource that you can do nothing about but will eventually stop you from being able to progress. Your CP doesn't matter until it runs out, at which point it you have to fast travel back to the last camp site and then run back to where you were.

Anyway, I think normal combat is fine. I suppose whether it's "too fast" is relative, but it's definitely not as fast as some of the previous Tales games or most modern character action games; you've got plenty of time during artes to look at what's going on around you, and the input buffer for actions is huge, so you don't need to button mash at all. Normal battles are basically all about getting your penetration high enough that you can easily stagger enemies, then launch them into the air and combo them until you can use a boost strike to kill them. Being in the air is not only fun, it's safer because a lot of enemies can't hit you when you're not on the ground.

Bosses, on the other hand, suck because they can't be staggered. Pretty much all you do in boss fights is use boost attacks to knock bosses over and then hit them with your strongest arte (in other words, Reigning Slash) until they're dead. If they're too fast for you to reliably attack them without getting hit, stay back and use Demon Fang and Double Demon Fang instead.

I'm not even having issues on hard tbh.

Jesus Christ. But yea, they should've balanced bosses with some that could be staggered like DMC does. Make combos actually matter.

I was the same as you when I started it but trust me after spending a bit of time learning all the battle mechanics properly I've started playing on hard difficulty and very rarely have anyone die even in boss fights a good team comp also helps most cases I run Alphen Kisara Rinwell and Dohalim but depending on the situation I'll bring Law and Shionne in

I wouldn't go as far as to say a cake walk but it has been a lot easier since the 3rd realm

Its not hard, but CP system sucks indeed. AI cant dodge ♥♥♥♥ even after you setup proper strategy for them.

Games isn't hard. You just need to know how to play/manage your item and gear....
If you find it hard, don't try DmC game

I find the game to be quite easy actually even on Hard mode. You really need to equip yourself with the right gear/spells/skills to give yourself the needed edge. Also being careful helps too, don't just run in and button smash. It is good to not over attack and learn when the enemies use larger skills since they can be avoided/dodged.

Difficulty is deliberately skewered at start to entice you into buying dlc, welcome to modern gaming
I played as Shionne and managed the cp usage myself. As far as I can tell the ai dodges and avoids damage better than me using a melee so I don't know what to say. With a ranged character I just stand back, dodging, healing, and attacking whenever without worrying about anything. I think after getting through the 2nd lord everything just got easier and easier. Boost attacks are goooooooooood.

That being said, I play game on normal and have only died to those damn high level monsters in low leveled areas. WHY the ♥♥♥♥ did they put higher level monsters in low leveled areas?
