I've played RPGs all my life, I know to upgrade equipment. It's not that. It's just too fast and frantic for me.
after that, its a cake walk
Anyway, I think normal combat is fine. I suppose whether it's "too fast" is relative, but it's definitely not as fast as some of the previous Tales games or most modern character action games; you've got plenty of time during artes to look at what's going on around you, and the input buffer for actions is huge, so you don't need to button mash at all. Normal battles are basically all about getting your penetration high enough that you can easily stagger enemies, then launch them into the air and combo them until you can use a boost strike to kill them. Being in the air is not only fun, it's safer because a lot of enemies can't hit you when you're not on the ground.
Bosses, on the other hand, suck because they can't be staggered. Pretty much all you do in boss fights is use boost attacks to knock bosses over and then hit them with your strongest arte (in other words, Reigning Slash) until they're dead. If they're too fast for you to reliably attack them without getting hit, stay back and use Demon Fang and Double Demon Fang instead.
Times like tht, if im able, I just hot swap to them and get their ass out of the way. lol
Really only a bandaid solution but does help.
If you find it hard, don't try DmC game
That being said, I play game on normal and have only died to those damn high level monsters in low leveled areas. WHY the ♥♥♥♥ did they put higher level monsters in low leveled areas?
