But honestly, I wouldn't try introducing people who hate on weebish stuff to good games anyway. The effort is wasted on people without good taste.
I'm a fan of obscure stuff, like Saber Marionette J, Tekkaman Blade, Ghost Sweeper Mikami...
I can only understand if a character is sad or angry if they scream like a maniac into the air while their eyes pulsate. Storytelling through body language and facial animations is over rated.
The game straddles the line between stale, roll your eyes tropes, and "tried and true" in my opinion.
Both are overrated.
Conveying Emotions through Body Language is as loud as making character scream when they're angry.
Difference is is that latter is at least very honest, while former makes visuals cringy.
I prefer "Convey Emotions without showing any emotion". Make the audience feel the moment instead. Let the audience to feel any emotions they want to feel, don't force the itended emotions to them.
That's why i love Silent Protagonist. Their Poker-Face'ness shows you that instead of playing as biased emotional idiot, you play as a smart person who knows better than anyone, and lack of emotions helps them to find the most rational solution.
I'm mostly joking. But I think you miss my buried point. These anime games almost use the same delivery every time. For instance, "scream boi" moments to show us the particular character is sad and angry over a catastrophic event; The gut wrench, eye pulsating scream with one large roar and pained groans.
What you seem to describe is traditional JRPG's and old school low detail games...and I agree it works well in those. But in this game Alphen is a written character who emotes and has a presence....... a traditional goody twoshoes help everyone Mamoruwa sword boi. I mean, everyone can't be a bloody plank "Conveying emotion without showing emotion".
so you say anybody who like the anime opening likes the game? what? are you actually serious? thats like saying anyone who likes the ost will like the game.
I'm as serious as OP. lol Anyone who watches the opening of the game knows what they're getting into. Anime is more mainstream in the west now than it has almost ever been. Tales series has always wore that inspiration on their sleeve.
Most people make purchasing choices on snap decisions. It's the reason why most people know if they like or hate a song within the first 15 seconds and why some people like things just because of aesthetics. It's also likely the same reason you responded so negatively to my original 2 sentence post.
I'd have to wager nothing I said here will matter to you and I should expect you to tell me how ridiculous it is for someone to base their purchase of a game on an opening movie, even though the reality is games have been purchased based on marketing of that very nature for decades.
so you say this games identity boils down to "anime"?
there are more than enough people who like anime and jrpgs but dont like the tales series.
also, some like turn based combat but an action combat is a dealbreaker.
some like anime but they dont like jrpg.
some like anime and tales but not arise.
you get what my point is right? i think you are oversimplifying to a rediculous degree when you say: just show them the opening scene, if they like that they will like the game. they will not know what they are getting into by that. they have no clue about the games systems, the story, the combat, nothing. they see a bunch of characters out of context and thats it.
have you ever watched an anime you dont like but you liked the opening? thats exactly the same thing. and even if you dont, its not that unlikely right?
the question is not if tehy would buy the game based on the opening, sure you could be right that ppl who dont need to turn every penny probably every now and then buy stuff they have no clue if they will like or not. but when it then comes to actually liking it or not, i am pretty sure you are dead wrong my dude.
Yes, well your response was pretty much what I expected and it appears you think your opinion is fact. I hope you're enjoying the game, but from the sounds of it you're not. Have a great day.
