Why might Monkey Paw wishes not fill in the journal?

The first time I got my hands on a monkey paw was shortly after its release. Me and my group suffered a lot to guess the wishes (we try not to peek into the guides), and figured out about four or five of them.

They, however, never appeared in the journal.

After that, earlier this week and today, I found the paw in singleplayer, and tried a few wishes. Three worked, but none of them appeared in the journal again.

I was wondering, are there any other prerequisites to get those wishes written down? Guessing the correct type of ghost? Specific wording? Clicking somewhere?

"i wish for knowledge" will give you what you're looking for. there are severe consequences for asking that though so i'm warning you now. asking it that makes the game borderline impossible to play unless you know the map layouts by heart.

The wishes are scattered about Sunny Meadows in the form of hexagonal slips of paper. Pick those up, and the wishes then get recorded to your Journal for future reference. They are all over, so search high and low (or... well, I'll say that someone was kind enough to map their exact positions)

Difficulty does not matter when searching either, so you can just go to Custom and turn on a passive ghost, 150% player speed, and infinite sprint... then run around the place.

If you want to seek them out for yourself, I'll give you a freebie so that you know what to look for: One is in the Chapel where all the Cursed Possessions spawn... on the podium where the preacher would stand when addressing the service.

So this means I cannot GUESS and make the wish for it to be recorded, only find a NOTE, and then and only then it'll get filled in, correct?

No, you cannot guess to add them to the journal, but... if you've memorized the prompts... you don't have to fill the phrases in order to use the paw either. Its there so you don't have to replay Sunny Meadows each and every time you need to refresh your memory on the key phrases.

It's worth noting that the journal entries for the Paw are still buggy as hell. I've picked up them all, and I still only have "I wish for safety", and "I wish for anything". I've done it in both Singleplayer and Multiplayer with no further results. I've tried using the other phrases with the Paw on Sunny Meadows and other maps too, and nothing I do lets me fill out the other ones I'm missing.

Also worth noting, you can do custom with a friendly ghost and infinite sprint on Sunny Meadows to get them all quickly. A lot less aggravating finding them when you're not dodging hunts XD

But that's not fun at all if the ghost doesn't want to eat your ass XD (I mean, in my version of fun, ofc, the fun through suffering)
