I have a D.O.T.S. question

I apologize if this has been answered already but do D.O.T.S. only show up if you are in the same room with the ghost? And if that is true, is there a way to obtain Goryo D.O.T.S. since you can't be IN the same room and only through a camera? I ask because I vaguely remember reading something about having to actually be near the ghost for D.O.T.S. to come up but I am not sure if that was through dev notes or somewhere else.

Have seen DOTS on the cameras with nobody in the house, just seems like it doesn't happen often.

There is one ghost that can be seen on dots only through camera, but in other cases, if ghost has dots as evidence, it doesn't matter if you're in the house or in the van.

Ghost periodically enters what is called "D.O.T.S. mode", where it will be visible to D.O.T.S. During this time, the D.O.T.S. light will show the ghost if you shine it on them, UNLESS it is Goryo, in which case you can not see it with naked eye. You need to look through camera, but you can be in the same room.

To get D.O.T.S. Goryo, find a place where they walk often and have D.O.T.S. light showing there (you can use F to place the Tier 1 pointer, I recommend having two points criss-crossing) and camera looking at the. Then go to the van and keep watching until you see it.

TL;DR D.O.T.S. light needs to be shone on the ghost when they are in D.O.T.S. mode will which make them visible.

As above stated, the ghost has a "DOTs" mode where it will be visible to dots for a period of time. Usually the ghost does a small "EVENT" towards a player so you have a higher chance of seeing dots if you are in the same room. But the ghost can also do a DOTs Roam Mode where it wanders thru dots but this is more rare and the only way to see it on a cam. Best chance to check for goryo is to actually be IN the room with the dots and cam going and NOT the truck as the truck method requires the ghost to be in dots roam mode which is rarer. If your in the room as it, you can get the dots ghost event which the ghost will essentially go towards one of the players which has a much higher chance the roam mode dots.

I have seen it. But I'm beginning to wonder if the Goryo ability to do DOTS more often got broken when the DOTS system changed.

For further suggestion.

If you're playing a game with reduced evidence (2 or 1... like Nightmare only gives you 2 evidence types and Insanity only 1) then DOTS will be a forced evidence on a Goryo, so if you get all your evidence and DOTS isn't part of it, then you can rule out goryo.

If you're having trouble getting all your allotted evidence and suspect you may have goryo DOTs you can do the van thing, but that will still leave you with partial evidence due to the nature of the challenge so you can get the camera and be in the next room away from the DOTs watching through the camera screen. If the DOTs appear on camera but not to your eyes that's a goryo. (Admittedly, I've only seen this once on my own games)

Best way to get dots is to stay in the ghost room, because then the ghost will always run towards the nearest player. If the ghost is alone, then it will still enter DOTS-Mode, but might just not run through DOTS, as they then have a random path (which can be very annoying for bigger rooms). For Goryo keep in mind to stay out of its room when you film it (just look into it without entering), as it won't do DOTS with a player in the same room.

Were you expecting it to be some completely different form of evidence or something? Literally the only thing that changed is instead of it generating a random figure running past at a random angle and ignoring all terrain, we now get to see the ghost itself doing whatever it's doing when it happens; And if any players are in the house it will path towards them during the time it's dots visible.

It almost literally IS the same thing; a random chance to happen. It's just the actual ghost now, not some random figure flashing past completely unrelated to the ghost.

DOTS on the camera happens. It's just rare now and you have to stare at the monitor for quite a while in my experience since update.

i've heard the opposite that the ghost will only enter dots state when you aren't in the room. and honestly not sure how true it is but every time i've seen dots it's always been where i was in the van or just outside the room.
