Currently its thought that only the wraith can see through doors but we know it can go through walls for sure. Hilariously it can't travel through middle kitchen island counters or dining room tables. So you can kite them around those objects.
Ghosts seem to rely heavily on line of sight. There was something about ghosts now being able to wander around your last known location if you break line of sight, making them more likely to give chase. I had this happen yesterday with a shade that saw me go into a locker. It had line of sight of me at the start of the hunt and I had nowhere to hide and it was blocking my exit. So I hid in the locker which has worked before. However it just walked right up to the locker and got me like it knew.
If a ghost is chasing you, breaking line of sight always helps. As well you can also "flashbang" it with a smudge stick to make it wander around for 5 seconds giving you a bit more breathing room to get a better hiding spot. Sometimes all you can do though is hide in a room, close the door and hole up in a corner. Breaking line of sight from the door seems to help.
Ghosts won't ever open or close doors/closets during a hunt. They just phase through them which is leading to some speculation on if they can see through them at all times or not.
Some ghost teleports to a players location and some target specific players. Other than that, they spawn in their favorite room.
Ghost can see through doors and walk through them. They also listen for you to make noises. Line of sight is the biggest thing. Make sure you're not in front of the door.
Most ghost can be out ran. If it's chasing you find something you can just run in a circle around. If you choose to hide, make sure door is fully shut..
Your body can clip through walls, lockers, etc. The ghost can see that as well. Prevent that.
Anyone else see the irony in this logic?
-No. And he will never know your location by voice, he just understand and will answer whay you say when you activate in-game voice (V key).
When a hunt starts, does the ghost already know your location at the start of the hunt?
-No, only visual sight. He usually starts from their main room and go here and there wandering to a random spot, then to a new one, usually he choses go back to their room and repeat this process again and again until he have some player on sight or hunt time ends.
How do ghosts interact with doors? Can they just see through them? Can they walk through them? Can they hear you opening/closing them?
-in hunt mode there are no doors for the ghosts they can see and pass through. in non hunt mode, if the door is closed deppends on the ghost type he can pass or need open it.
How can you lose the ghost if it starts chasing you?
-Avoid her direct visual contact on you. Even if he's just behind you chasing to kill, can avoid him just turning into a corner and hidding behind any object. Long corridors and pass by zones are dangerous, avoid always on hunt mode, best is enter into a room and hide behind any object there.Even a bed will block the view from the ghost to you (and you can see through or behind). Crouch will help if the ghost is not a crawler one, if you know is a tall ghst you can try, but just as emergency if you have no where to hide (like asylum entrance), crawlers will lock on you even crouched, useless.
have fun with your hunt!
False: ghost still listens without you using push to talk. The game is set to use windows voice recognition. It’s been tested and I’ve seen it myself that a ghost reacts to a player not speaking in game.
Ghost doesn’t go to random spots. Depending on the ghost type, It goes to areas of its target or sounds.
Ghosts work on line of sight.
Only the wraith can see through doors, all other ghosts cannot see through doors.
All ghosts go through doors, randomly. If it goes through yours, you're just unlucky.
Wraiths do not "go through walls" per se, but they will randomly teleport to players and idle in the player's location for a bit. This is NOT during a hunt. No ghost teleports during a hunt. All ghosts can go through all doors (except exits) during a hunt. Wraith can see through doors during a hunt. If it's a wraith, close the door AND hide around the side so it can't see you. Ironically, hiding behind a bookcase is safe.
The ghost does go to random spots. It'll generally pick a spot to wander to, and head there during a hunt, while constantly checking for line of sight on people (every 2 seconds i think?)
Ultimately, audio doesn't affect a hunt at all. Any noises made have 0 effects and what the ghost does. It's either randomly wandering to a specific position it chose, OR it's chasing someone it has a visual on.
I forgot to ask, how do ghosts interact with flashlights?
How the hell is anyone suppose to do that?
You can die if you glitch through doors, but that isn't from the ghost seeing through the door but because your glitching outside of it and they see the piece of you sticking out.
A; no. some people disagree, but there's nothing in the code about it and plenty of other people(myself included) have never noticed the ghost being attracted to sound. it may be able to technically hear you, but it does not use sound to locate prey, only sight.
Q; When a hunt starts, does the ghost already know your location at the start of the hunt?
A; only if it's a banshee, in which case it will spawn near its current target. other ghosts MAY spawn near you simply because they were following you during regularly gameplay, but usually they spawn in/near their specific room.
Q; How do ghosts interact with doors? Can they just see through them? Can they walk through them? Can they hear you opening/closing them?
A; only wraiths and dead players can see through doors. all ghosts can walk through them tho, and will do so as part of their random wandering/hunting path. this is why it's important to hide as far away from the ghost as possible, to ensure it doesn't just happen to enter your hiding spot. it'd be a pretty easy game if you could just trap it by closing a door. as for whether they hear you messing with doors, i've never heard anything about it so i find it highly unlikely.
Q; How can you lose the ghost if it starts chasing you?
A; break line of sight. depending on how close it is to you, you may be better off just running/kiting it for the duration of the hunt, but generally just turning corners and closing doors will be enough to throw it off your trail.
Q; I've tried just sitting inside a closed locker when a hunt started, and the ghost seemed to instantly know where I was.
A; it's most likely you were in a hallway or other area the ghost was already wandering in, and as lockers are very shallow, your hitbox was sticking out enough for the ghost to kill you. only use lockers as a last resort, and always turn away from the door and look down to keep your head from sticking out into the open.
