Asylum is destroying my laptop
Video card: GeForce GTX 1650
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Display: 1920x1080, 144Hz
Processor: Intel i5-9300H CPU 2.40GHz

Asylum is burning my laptop, its like a potato PC trying to run GTA 5.
I have no problem with other maps (except little freezes sometimes). I don't understand why Asylum is burning my PC as long as I tried to set off the VSync, but barely something different.

When you run it windowed you're locking your framerate to your monitor refresh rate/desktop refresh rate. It essentially functions the same as VSync.

And if 144 is too high then try running at half that using the NVidia control panel (Add Phasmophobia game exe using 'Manage 3D settings>Program Settings' and choose 'Adaptive half refresh rate' for VSync) - I have VSync forced On in the control panel for Phasmophobia.

This.

There is a post about this usually once every few weeks and it's always just someone who is getting like 300+ FPS or something so their GPU is going at 100% like all the time.

I use a GTX 1050 ti and runs fine, even in asylum. Your VC is far superior than mine, so you can discard that.

However I use a desktop with the biggest fan on earth. A laptop...I really don't know.

Try to update your video controller drivers. If that doesn't work perhaps is an overheating problem.

Thanks for reply, I'm up to date with everything. I might consider getting a cooler soon because my fans might not work properly anymore.
Also, as strange as it is, the game work almost perfectly while windowed. Don't ask me why... Also after I've went back to full screen, the game worked well on Asylum too. I really don't know what to think.

Something is wrong, the game isn't demanding at all.

Thanks for reply, that's true.
I should really check my system, something is wrong.

You have afterburner?, use it to monitor your cpu ram gpu usage and temps. Being a laptop your ram may be shared between cpu/gpu. Somewhere to start.

enable frame limitation.
marco.schuer Nov 14, 2020 @ 8:15am
Probably because of the unlimited FPS - just enable VSync and the problem should be solved.

Could be ram, and its an easy thing to change. Swap it for 16g and see how that goes.

RAM cannot overheat a laptop like the GPU or CPU can.

This game runs like minecraft, there is no specs needed for this game, i think your laptop is broken.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thanks to all of you for your replies, that helped me to solve the problem. Enabled the VSync and used GeForce's setting for the game and seems to work fine now. Thanks again for the support!

Awesome, glad to hear it. :)

You can use Rivatuner to set a global FPS limit. I just set it to 160 which is the Hz of my monitor. But you can also do it per exe. That will stop games running away in to 100s of FPS and cooking the GPU.

Developers should really put an FPS cap on games to stop it. But most don't.
