Ghosts can hear me, players can't
I've read a few places that it's possible to disconnect or not connect at all to the voice server. I'm currently unable to play because I can't talk to anyone. Ghosts can hear me fine, but players can't. I've successfully used the spirit box and the settings menu can hear me.
Anyone that has any idea how to fix this, please help.

I wish, been waiting for a fix for this for a while now. Dev doesn't seem interested at all in making the primary element of his game work correctly all round, so I uninstalled until he does. Or he gets some other devs on board to help. Trying to do this game developing solo and not allowing help was a death sentence from the get go. Hopefully some more competent devs take this idea and make it better some day in the future.

Hey, this is usually fixed by updating your motherboard audio driver.

If that doesn't fix it then please join our discord server and ask for help in the bug support channel where you can get more help.

Tried that, and all of the things in your pinned voice problem post. Nothing has worked. What would work, is hiring more people to help you keep on top of menial ♥♥♥♥ like this, so that your game doesn't wither away. If you can't outright fix the voice problem, without people having to alter their computer settings, which you obviously can't, then you need someone better at that area of development than you. Your game is the only game, out of my list of games which I can speak to other people in, that doesn't work. I didn't have to alter anything in my PC settings to make the other games work, they just did. And their primary function isn't voice. So instead of messing around telling people this and that and try this 100 things that may or may not work sporadically for some and not for others... Just get someone to help you and stop being ridiculous and stubborn about allowing other people to work on your project with you... You'll kill your own game acting like that, and maybe we'll have to hunt for Phasmophobias ghost in a better made Ghost Hunting game by someone else.. =/

It's been far too long to still be having problems with the one core aspect of your game, that is meant to hold it together.. Don't you think?
Chaneya Dec 5, 2020 @ 10:52am
I can understand that this problem limits the gameplay. I really do. But that's no reason to become unfriendly. :) I think it would be helpful to get some more information. Maybe the cause can then be narrowed down somewhat. After all, it doesn't seem to be a general problem that affects everyone. So, when did the problems start? Does this occur on the normal server? The beta server? Or on both? Which mainboard is installed? Are there other internal or external sound cards?

I'd just like a text chat to be able to tell people my mic seems to be having issues and please don't kick me while I try to resolve this.
FrolicAholic Dec 5, 2020 @ 11:30am
@Chaneya I think you're right, first step is narrowing this down, and if this guy is the only developer then he's gonna need help from the community.

@Viking_War_Bear I understand the frustration, but you're kind of being a jerk. The game is clearly stated as being in beta and early access. A workaround is to use discord like every other game. Let's get on discord and write this up with our computer specs, and what happened. For example I tested out a Bluetooth headset right before this happened. Things like that can really help narrow it down. The dev just released a beta that fixed some problems with the mic,not mine, but at least it shows that he is responding to problems.

@Kinetic Games Thank you for getting back to me, it's pretty clear that you care about the community if you answered a question in the steam forum. I'll be getting on discord and posting about this. Love the game, but unfortunately no mic is game breaking.

For anyone else having this problem...If you're having problems talking to the ghost then from what I've read, it's on your end. The settings menu is local, again from what I've read.
Do not use alt+tab! This will mess up the mic, and if you do alt out then don't alt back in, instead click the icon on your taskbar, this seems to be fine. This isn't fact, but something others have observed.

You say no reason to become unfriendly, but you probably haven't been repeatedly yelled at and kicked by people because they think you're trying to play with no mic, but you have one, the game just doesn't work right for some. That plus the fact that it's been quite some time, and the dev hasn't managed a fix for everyone. Also, I'm being realistic. Harsh as it may seem, but this is the gaming world, someone bigger and better will take this awesome idea, and make it work for everyone. Probably because they'd have more than just one person trying to handle everything... He needs people to help with the stuff he can't figure out himself. But he refuses to take anyone on to this project. I'll be polite, when instead of excuses or asking people to join the discord to be told the exact same stuff the pinned post says, which doesn't work by the way... the developer listens to the people that play, or want to play the game. And something is actually done about this issue. Or this dev can convince Steam to refund me, so I can spend my hard earned money on a game that works. In a game where voice recognition is pretty much the whole basis of the game, that should have been the first thing that was dealt with.

Perhaps I was caught on a bad day. However the facts still stand true. One man cannot develop a game like this. And if the one core aspect of a game hasn't been dealt with swiftly, and I have also seen complaints at a lack of new content, so people who have played for a while are now bored and playing other things... Then this game has a pretty short shelf life, not being a ♥♥♥♥ there, being realistic. He needs a team, it's the only way to even start to salvage anything. He's lost a massive portion of potential players already, and has been slow with fixes and content. I've said before and I'll say it again. Magnificent idea, poor execution. And a shame.
Chaneya Dec 5, 2020 @ 12:17pm
@ Viking As mentioned above, I understand you. Absolutely. Players can consider the microphone a non-plus-ultra feature. But spoken between you and me, players always find something. If your level is too high, you're out. If your level is too low, you're out. If they don't like your voice, you're out. And so on. Right? :)

What I just want to say is that it doesn't help anyone, neither you nor the developer, to reduce aggression, instead of giving helpful information that can localize the cause.

As Frolicalholic also says, leave the information about the hardware on the discord server. Maybe with a short description. Certainly the problem will not be solved today or tomorrow, but it will be. Because the way I see it so far, the dev focused on bug fixing rather than content release. Without meaning this as a valuation.

I completely understand you in saying that there is a chance another development studio will come and take up the idea. On the one hand, this is called market economy, there is ALWAYS someone who turns your idea through a more or less good mixer and makes something different out of it, which is similar but not the same. Or even a copy. There should probably already be an app with the contents. And because phasmophobia has become popular and can be sold well, there will be competition. One way or another. Everybody wants a piece of the cake. But the question is to what extent you can bind the players to you through whatever. I think at this point this is a decision that the developer has to decide for himself what this path should look like.

I would also unlike to see that the one who has brought out a new gameplay is ousted by the competition. I do not know the circumstances. Maybe there are entrepreneurial conditions that make it difficult to work more closely with the community. Or something else. I do not know. However, I see it like a majority of the community and you that it would be a pity to see this game with the competition for reasons of wrong decisions. :)
